I've started this thread for two reasons - one being that I fancied a change of scene from the negativity that has been aimed at The Bill, and secondly, I wanted to express my admiration for this series. Here is an opportunity for fans of The Bill, both old and new, to explain to the whole board why we love this show.

I've been watching The Bill since around 1999/2000 (although I've seen a number of old episodes including the first two series), and I have developed a soft spot for the show that I have for no other. I love The Bill, more than I love any soap/drama on television (maybe not every drama but you get the picture). Its blend of procedural police work and character driven/personal storylines have kept me hooked. It has a strong ensemble cast, it is extremely well acted, well paced and often gritty.

That's to give credit where it's due, because I understand that this police drama has had its lows especially over the last three or four years. It may have been bogged down with far-fetched personal storylines and often steeped in sensationalism, memorable and not so memorable characters have come and gone like hell knows, but I've always remained loyal to the show and stuck with it. The Bill I feel is now back on track, although I can honestly say it's not quite as good as it was some years back, it is still great viewing. The recent live episode proved very much that the show still has the energetic formula needed to keep its viewers shocked and gripped with a single police story.

All I can say is long live The Bill. For long may it continue.

i love the bill too, and i can't really tell you why. it's one of the few programmes i bother to video if i know i'm going to miss it.

as for the more soapy storylines - once that decision was made, viewing figures did go up. much as people may criticise it for its lack of realism, the majority obviously love human interest stories.

sometimes having to wade through a really lengthy thread is too much like hard work.

I'm also here now.
I also love The Bill and I always try to watch it. Became a proper fan around autumn 2004 and have watched nearly all the episodes since. God bless ITV3
I admit the later stages of the Paul Marquees era became a bit dodgy but it was still a top police/crime drama.
I have enjoyed it a lot more since Jonathon Young took over as more of the soapy elements have been removed and the crime and police work is getting first priority which is what I've wanted.
It's definitely getting to it's best but with the exception of the UK Gold episodes that have been on since last year I was never a big fan that long back so naturally this is the best I've seen it at as I missed the Beech/Burnside eras.

You can find me on the Discussion and Spoiler Free forum, and the UK Gold forum too.
And possibly here if this thread becomes really popular.

*appreciates*

Well done on starting this thread, Will. There are too many "The Bill is crap!" type of threads at the moment. It's time to show some genuine love for it.
