h264 is gaining more support and will doubtless be added to the A2 firmware in good time (the other advantage of the A2 is the almost continuous development of the firmware). The video on the iPod is OK but doesn't come anywhere close to the A2 and other dedicated PMP's. Mp3 is well supported, but is a proprietary format the rights to which are owned by Thomson/The Fraunhofer Institute. |

OK then .... fair do's.
Replace 'proprietary' with 'niche' then. (The A2 also supports OGG by the way) The net result is I don't want to waste half my life converting hundreds of perfectly good Xvid and DivX files to some other format just so I can use them on my portable. I wanted the widest format/codec support I could find. Along with as much functionality as possible, good support, a DAMN good screen and good battery life. My old player laster me for years as it was flexible enough to do what I wanted from it. I can see the A2 lasting me a good long time again for the same reasons. |

Remember if you buy in the states from a shop you need to add 4% (New York rate) of the price for sales tax, but a darn site better than VAT rate!
Also the B&H price list, but you may be able to pick something up cheaper http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...rch&Q=&ci=6506 |

Any news of a new ipod, because I am seriously considering buying a video, but I will wait if there are plans for a new one soon.

They just introduced the U2 version of the current video iPod. Surely if there was a new generation of iPod 30gb coming out, they would have held off.

If you guys are so worried about forking out money just to find out a new one has come out, why not try eBay? You'd probably get a good deal from it.

I think any 'full video' iPod won't be released until an iTunes Movie Store, which is looking like 2007 now.
After knackering my iPod photo the other day (stone kitchen floor.. harddisk.. ouch), I'm going to replace it with a 5G. I don't think there's any point waiting. |
