One thing to consider on the HDD size issue, is wether or not you're just going to use it for recording, or if you're going to use it for mp3's and photos (with an appropriate tap), too.
That extra space is very appealing, if you want a large mp3 and photo collection available to your armchair. :P
Oh, and I have the 250gb, and apart from a click just after switch on, I can't hear anything. I have to put my ear next to the unit to descern any noise, and even then, i can't say I can here a distinctive HDD noise (clicks, warbles, etc). All I hear is a very faint hum.
