guys, went to PC world yesterday to get a printer cartridge, saw the R7 32" on the wall there. - I'm a little disappointed, and cant make my mind up, the picture looked ok, but the Black finish is more shiny than i thought it was dare i say it... tacky + the black glass TV stands also looked tacky. Not sure now, do i compromise the Quality over the design ? + Piano Gloss does not look like that.

Good Evening Everyone. This is my first time on a Forum. I have read this Forum / thread with great interest as I am going to buy a Samsung LE32R74BDX in the next week or so. Naturally I don't want to pay £1049.99 at Currys but I am worried about the guarantee from internet sites that are selling these round about the £800 price. Are they all Return to Base guarantees or do some have a home visit guarantee ? Does the 'X' at the end of the model number mean that it has a Digital (Freeview) tuner rather than analogue ? The R73BD does not have the 'X' after it in the Currys advert.
The thought of missing (or otherwise defective) pixels worries me, as having to return the set (by Courier) would not be cheap. As an OAP, I have other things planned for my money. How do you check for pixel problems and have any of the forum members had any this kind of trouble with the 7 series ? Many Thanks and sorry to appear a bit ignorant about these things, but any help would be appreciated. |

The D stands for digital tuner. I've no idea what the X is so I don't think it's important. So far, I haven't seen anyone reporting dead pixels. The manufacturing process is much better than it used to be for LCD panels, so their quality control can afford to be more fussy. Good luck with the purchase, and don't hesitate to ask for more advice! |

Many Thanks Sicknote and Stig for your very prompt replies . I have looked on Pricerunner and the prices are as low as £797 for the 32" BDX . My existing 8 year old 32" CRT, JVC TV has been offered and gratefully accepted by No. 2 daughter and her partner for when I eventually take delivery of the new set . It is in great working condition and has been completely reliable with no problems at all . I have looked at the cost of insuring the new set and it is £169 for an extra 2 years guarantee . Bearing in mind that my existing set is 8 years old and has been trouble free , in your opinion is it worth the extra £169 for two years extra guarantee ? I can get a lot of other bits for that money and am wondering whether the extra guarantee is really needed . I would think that if a fault is going to develop , it should occur in the first 12 months . By the way , my CRT TV is a 32" and only measures slightly over 30" diagonally . I understand that a 32" LCD TV actually measures 32" diagonally . Thanks again for all your help .

Yes, 32" means 32" when it refers to LCD.
I am unsure about the warranty. I didn't get one for my new Samsung, but the previous model was accompanied by stories of them blowing up! I agree this is most likely to happen within the first 12 months. I was expecting to get offers of insurance through the post after registering the product with Samsung, but so far nothing. It is an expensive item to replace, but I think I won't bother with a warranty. This is probably a good topic for another thread if someone wants to start one! |

Samsung R7
Hi guys
First time to post on the board, I thought I'd share my experiences. I have just bought a Samsung R7 40" black case with freeview. I bought from Currys as I wanted somewhere I could take it back to if things went pear shaped. Any way got the set home, set it up and there was a small red splodge in the top centre of the screen about 4" from the top. On examination with a magnifying glass (yes sad I know but I am a bit pedantic) the cause was 2 dead green sub pixels. On white backgrounds this made the adjacent red sub pixels stand out, hence the red coloured splodge. I phoned Samsung to see what they would say. I told them that there were 2 dead green sub pixels next to each other and they said (unsurprisingly) that this did not constitute a manufacturing failure and so there was nothing they could do. I told them that it was noticeable from 10 feet away (just) on a light background. Still nothing they could do (ISO standard, complicated manufacturing technique etc.) Armed with this information I went back to Currys and did not mention anything about dead pixels Just said that there is a red splodge on the screen, visible from 10 feet. They offered to exchange it right away no arguments! So now I have a perfect panel with zero dead pixels. The initial picture on freeview was ok but not perfect, it was a little hard and unforgiving as one would expect from an LCD, however I a little time spent adjusting the settings and now I have to say I am more than happy with the picture on SD freeview broadcasts. I have downloaded a 720p HD trailer and watched via my media centre and all I can say is WOW, it is truly fantastic. Roll on HD broadcast. Gary |

Like lots of you in here am very keen to buy a LE40R74BD and now thanks to my £1100 bonus (thanks boss) I'm in a possition to order one.
It's interesting to read that some people find the Freeview picture to be great right out of the box, while others say it's better after some adjustment. So just for the record, what are every ones prefered picture settings? Also, has anyone found an online price better than 247 Electrical's price of £1241.40 delivered? Rather better than Dixons Online £1329.00 using discount code 951546WP which knocks of a wopping £270.99. Come on guys. How low can the price go?

![]() I went through the THX picture set-up from a Star Wars DVD, and the results were "interesting". One thing I've only just started to notice is how good its deinterlacer is. I'd kind-of assumed that it would be basic, perhaps just dropping one of the fields, but it seems not. Dave |

If you really want a 3 years + guarantee then I would suggest you go to John lewis as they offer 5 years standard on all TVs and and ask them to price match. Their online price is £1049 so you'd have to find a retailer (with actual shops) to match against. John lewis link Empire Direct have the same model for £847 and they have retail stores. Empire Direct Link Based on the figures you stated before you were prepared to pay £797 + £169 = £966. I don't know whether there are clauses or conditions to JL's price match, maybe someone on hre can fill you in a bit more. Hope this helps

It is a VESA E 100 x 200mm mount. You will need to find one that supports 14kg. |
