You still buying music?

No, i dont mean have you ditched buying albums over MP3.

Who can be arsed to buy singles any more? My point is, i started collecting CD singles years ago, and already have too many to store or listen to properly. And these days, with plenty of radio stations and TV music stations, you can guarantee something you like is going to be on shortly, especially if you have Sky Digital.

Plus, now i am a proper, busy grown up, i haven't really got the time or inclination to put on a whole album and listen to it. Usually, whatever i'm doing will have some background music anyway...

SO... has anyone else found you dont need to buy so much music these days as, even with obscure genres, there so much opportunity to hear what you like free.

Plus with declining quality over the years*, this is why i reckon sales are decreasing. Music is so readily (& legally) available over the tv, radio and net (not dodgy mp3's but streaming etc) that theres less need to buy stuff.

*(declining quality in my opinion... i can only call myself a fan of 2 bands now compared to like 10 in the 1990s-> Foo Fighters and Prodigy, altho their new single wasn't very good Anything else i like seem to be just indie or dance one hit wonders!)

i've started to buy more albums and never buy singles.

I only have a few singles from a long time ago (such as sash, dario g, basement jaxx dj quicksilver) but now seem to buy more albums. What i do is i listen to the album over the internet and if i like it i will buy the thing I dont really like copied cds anymore, they make you look a bit cheap and i like the feeling of knowing i have the proper copy. Although still in some places they can be overpriced.

By the way, does anyone remember that law about mp3s from a few years back? Does that still apply? It goes something like "you are allowed to keep a copyrighted MP3 for 24 hours but must delete it before those 24 hours are up". Or was that just a load of BS?

i buy quite a few albums nowadays from www.cdwow.com and www.play.com and I won't pay anymore then £10 for an album shops like Virgin and HMV are ripping us off.

I have very rarely brought singles especially if they are from albums they just aren't worth the money

Well, regardless of whether they are a rip or not, do you find time to just listen to an album? Is it just me that thinks what with all the radio stations, tv music channels and streaming net music theres no point buying stuff cos you can listen to what you want for free?

Example: whats the point me buying house/dance music when its on every weekend on radio 1, its always on MTV dance and music choice, and there are net radio stations like digitally imported? .. theres so much decent free dance, i'd be a fool to buy a cd i dont even have time to listen to surely

the reason i buy albums is because a lot of the tracks on there can actually be better than the ones they release

I dont like buying compliation albums, simply because theres no point as you say they are always on TV.

But artist specific albums i like

I hardly ever buy music because like you said, its so easily available for free. And by the time you've heard stuff a few time you get bored

I stopped buy the singles years ago. What's the point of buying a edit version of a song when the full versions on the CD album. People might say, well it'll have different mixes or so called tracks not on the album. In my eyes that still doesn't warrant me to go out and buy a cd single for £3.99 or whatever price they are. I still buy albums, but most of the time I download them of the internet first. If they are any good I will buy the original. If not then they get binned or if any of my friends like it then I give it to them.

I buy the odd album every now and again (recent purchases include By The Way by the Chilis and A Rush Of Blood To The Head by Coldplay) but I never buy singles. They are a major rip-off.

I buy albums to listen to on my cd when I'm in bed it helps me to fall asleep( maybe I'm listening to the wrong music)

I dont have a TV in my bedroom, and all the radio plays is talk shows, so i buy albums, mostly from Amazon.com it's nice to have the album sleeve and notes and sometimes you get an extra track or two.

I have been buying music for a long time now - mainly albums - going back to when it was all on vinyl and I cannot imagine a time when I would not do so.

I find time to listen to it - in the car, at home - sometimes as background - sometimes just to listen to music.

My collection goes all over the place - rock, country, folk, punk, classical - and so on.

So - Am I still buying music? - YES

Do they still do that? Every single i have bought has been the same as the album version. But then sometimes the Single version has been greatly improved on over the album version.

I still buy music but very rarely. Mostly to do with money. I will buy a single if i'm not particulary into that type of music but like the certain song.

I buy singles from bands that do good B-Sides and I like a lot, eg Oasis, Doves, Coldplay etc.

Otherwise no, I will buy an album instead. And yes, I still buy at album every couple of months (maybe more). Downloading songs, never have the same feel to it and take forever (:'( 56K:'( )

i have'nt bought any albums or singles in months, seemed to stop when i got my Cable modem hmm wonder why that was?

seriously though i have never felt the need to buy a album in ages, i can find just about any artists i could want on file sharing programs and with the odd exceptions the sound quality is just fine and as mentioned there are many other ways of listening to music like Radio/TV Stations

i always like to listen to music though and often manage to find time for it, whether it is MP3s on my computer, or listening to some albums or the compilations i have made on CD
