Was Tony Wood the laziest Producer Corrie ever had?
Watching all these old Corronation Street DVDs really shows up the modern day Corrie and something else it shows up is former producer Tony Wood.
Nearly every storyline Tony Wood did while at Corronation Street was a recycled plot from an early era. First up the Shelley and Charlie stuff was a poor recreation of the Alan Bradley and Rita Littlewood story, Mad Maya and Don Brennan, Maya even drove her car into the same wall as him Then we have him turning Claire into Deirdre, the Battersbys turning into the Ogdens not to mention the idea of a tram crash which had already happened in 1967 What a lazy man he was and no wonder the show was winning so much praise, Just a shame most of the things happening had already been done. |

Interesting points and now you have mentioned it that does seem the case. Old storylines being repeated is not uncommon but he does seem to have copied alot of the old ones Corrie had already done. |

In all fairness hasn't pretty much every storyline been done by now? It must be increasingly difficult to think of new ones.

I cannot even draw any comparisons between Shelley & Charlie and Rita & Alan. I honestly can't see what is so "similar" about them. Fair enough the two male characters were guilty of a certain level of psychological abuse, but the way in which the two storylines were played out were completely different. Both storylines had different drives and objectives, they had different conclusions. What did Maya Sharma burning down 6 Corner Shops, trying to murder two characters and then being hit by a lorry have to do with Don Brennan? Granted they both crashed in the same place, but again the basis for the actual storylines was utterly different. Sorry but you can't pick one feature of a storyline and say it's a copy. It's like me saying that Emmerdale or EastEnders is a carbon copy of Coronation Street because each show contains a local pub. |

![]() Imagine what it's going to be like in 50 years time if the Soaps are still around. Everything's pretty much been done and there's obviously going to be a few recycled ones. -Brodie |

A lick of paint, new wallpaper, make it look a teensy bit more modern, but nothing drastic I agree.

First time round when he had Alma hostage in the car he drove into the docks near Mikes flat I think. Then when he was in hospital and escaped he tied Mike up in the factory and then after that he drove his car into the wall at the end of the street. Don was very good at car crashes , didn't he lose his foot in a car crash when he was with Ivy years before ? |

The first crash Don was in beause he hated Ivy but she kind of blackmailed him into living with her. I'm pretty sure she started drinking and the only way she would stop if he moved back in, so he started having an affair with someone and I think she may have called it off, so he sped down a country road and I think he just didn't stop on purpose.
Then he got over that and met Josie once Ivy died, and they went into partnership together and bought the garage of Mike Baldwin, who was going to sell it to Kevin but Josie overheard Mike talking about selling it and they got there first, but Mike conned them so when they found out, something happened with Josie (I'm pretty sure Don blamed her for over hearing the conversation Mike had about selling it) and she left and Don wanted to get back at Mike for conning him. I think it went on for a while with him been nasty to Mike and Alma. Thats when he kidnapped Alma and drove her into the lake, then I remember Mike Baldwin stood in the middle of the road and him driving right towards him and hitting the wall. Oh and I think he had stolen Alma's car to crash. (The bit where Mike was stood in the road may have been Maya and Dev though so I could have got confused) Don was a bit of a nutter if you look back. He also stalked Denise for a while and yes I do seem to remember him gasing himself in the garage. |

Are you honestly comparing the Ogden's to the Battersby's?
