Marantz.......YUCK!!!!!!!!!
ok hears whats going down......2 days ago I bought a Martantz 2230 at a garage sale for $5. I originally got it to fix my other Marantz 1550 (needs new balance and selector knob) until I decided to test it. Than I decided it was too nice of a stereo to be used for parts so I started to clean it up. this old stereo was in a old horse stable so it made my basement smell really bad. I tried to clean the dust out with compressed air, first at 40psi than at 70psi; this was not working too well so I was going to clean it with naphtha, so when I was at the big box store buying tuner cleaner and naphtha I came across a nice product called Lectra Clean. I brought that home and soaked the circuitry of the Marantz in it. now I have a 30 year old Marantz that looks new, smells new, and sounds new. I could not really find any info on the output watts but it did say this in the manual, pg 12, “idling power (volume control at 0)-48W” and “both channels operating-190W”
now that you read what I had to say I have some pictures to show you this is what it looked like working (notice the yellow colored knobs) http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/4886/dscf24081nl.jpg here is the PSU (the top I cleaned off with a moist rag and to the left I rubbed off with my finger) http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/6444/dscf24130kb.jpg this is what the CAPs looked like (look at how much dust is on the one all the way to the right) http://img460.imageshack.us/img460/5010/dscf24140dd.jpg now comes the power amp http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/4098/dscf24121bv.jpg ok this is the heatsink on the FM Buffer amp (notice the nice spider nest in the fins) http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/3135/dscf24102zl.jpg this is what the PSU looks like after cleaning http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/2986/dscf24211pe.jpg these are the CAPs after cleaning http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/221/dscf24240dx.jpg this is what the power amp look like after cleaning (notice how there is hardly any dust) http://img482.imageshack.us/img482/1438/dscf24258av.jpg heatsink on the FM Buffer http://img482.imageshack.us/img482/6345/dscf24191dz.jpg overall this is what the stereo looks like when I was done (notice how the yellow is gone from the knobs) http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/9072/dscf24189yf.jpg http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/9783/dscf24154vu.jpg ohh...almost forgot to post the cleaner I used http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/8329/dscf24274kq.jpg this cleaner was amazing and its perfect for cleaning that sticky dust out of hard to reach places. |

my wife was standing behind me as i read your post and she thinks that your wooden tv is the best thing she's ever seen "why cant we have one that looks like that" "everything looks the same now" "i like things that are more classical"
i think this proves 2 things 1. my wife has no taste 2. i should be more careful what she see's me looking at on here. by the way that cleaner looks ace |

@AMD_#1!
I like your post, but the title is a bit misleading, I thought this thread was slamming the marantz brand name (YUCK!!!...). |

about the TV it is a old zenith and the tube is going out. I dont use it any more because when the tube takes a crap on me I dont want to carry that cabinet up the stares, but if you want I will get the model when I get home.
about me saying YUCK!!!!!!! you would know what I mean if you smelled it. I actually really like my Marantzes and I am going to replace my old radio shack with this one. |
