We received our 50 " samsung SP50L7HX last week.

I'm happy with it but my wife and her mum are complaining about it giving them a headache. We sit about 12 feet from it and I have adjusted the contrast/brightness a bit lower.

I thought they were talking nonsense until I was watching it last night. If you quickly turn your head while watching it you see a flash across the screen like a rainbow.

Personally I don't think this is a fault with the TV but the wife is driving me nuts moaning about it.

Anyone got any ideas ?

PS The picture mode is not on dynamic

I don't have one but, the rainbow effect is well known when talking about DLP's. So no thats not a fault.
Buy a box of Paracetamol and enjoy it..

I think watching any normal TV broadcast on a 50" screen 12 feet away would give anyone a headache.
Because of the huge size for everyday domestic viewing, some people get eye fatigue and motion sickness and a part of that is headaches. I cant see why it would be anything else if your contrast and brightness are down- do you watch TV in a dark room?.

I didn't see any references to the rainbow effect when choosing the Tv but now you have mentioned it, I've found out about it.

I played a demo video to my wife which shows the effect and this is what she is seeing.

We don't watch tv in a darkened room but i noticed the effect slightly last night when the light was off.

She seems to be very sensitive to it so the TV will need to go back which is a shame as I love it.

Don't know what to change it for now.

Any issues with panasonic plasma screens ?

Some info about DLP :

http://www.dlp.com/dlp_technology/dl...y_overview.asp

The colour flashing is due to the spinning colour wheel to produce the colour picture from one DLP chip. If you can find a 3 chip DLP TV then this will not have the same effect, don't know if any are available (but will be more expensive).

With plasma screen burn can be a problem, it is especially important for the first few hundred hours to treat them carefully.
You need to turn the contrast down and avoid still images, including the on screen channel idents. (DOGs).
It might be worth taking out an extended warranty (not from currys etc.) as if a fault develops with the plasma panel then it can cost more than a new TV to replace it.
