Little dave

Hi

I am about to replace the HDD in my 5800 for a larger one, I have copied over to my PC the programmes I want to keep (a very lengthily process) is there any way I can copy them over to the new HDD via the PC.

Regards

Dave

topfHDRW allows you to connect a Toppy format hard drive directly to a windows PC for fast file transfer. You may need to format the new drive in the Toppy before you install it in the PC. See toppy.org.uk Windows downloads section or topfield.cc to download it.

Thanks for that just one more question the drive I am using is a Maxtor 6L3000RO and I have the jumper set to master as I think was the old Samsung is this correct and are there any known issues with this drive (as this one is playing up).

Master is correct but you would have been better with a Samsung V120CE 250 from http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=308644 £68. Dead silent CE drive.

I have installed it, the Samsung V120CE 250 that is and copied over all my files great only thing now is it has a high pitched whining, I thought these drives where supposed to be whisper quite , I seem to remember reading about a utility to quietern drives do you think that might do the trick.

i believve there is a HD utility which allows you to make your HD whisper quite (HD settings), i have not used it but worth a try either google it or perhaps the toppy sites....

This TAP is what you're after.

Yeah, the whining is the disk spinning so you'd get that to various degrees regardless of PVR. The TAP just changes the speed that the disk heads move so reduces the disk 'chatter'. Some people have reported that standing the Toppy on additional rubber feet helps stop noise being amplified by the surface it stands on.

You can get the disk to spin down when you're not recording by turning off timeshifing in the system menu.
