This will probably sound like the most idiotic question ever, but my first and only TV came from Argos and it was delivered in about 2 weeks.

Can I just go into Comet or Currys and buy a TV to take home? I don't fancy waiting weeks for delivery.

Yes, but you'll need to provide details to go to TV licensing

well in theory you can but currys normally never have any stock in till tuesday lol dont know why but every time i've been to currys for a tv or dvd player or pc its always never in stock but available next tuesday. Comet I've never had problems with they tend to actually have things in store in stock. So I'd try comet first if i was you, unless you want to go to some shady looking tv store local to yourself lol

wasn't the case for me I bought my HD reay lcd about 6 -7 months ago and was never asked about tv liecence details or told to tell them

I know it's like blasphemy in this forum, but all I'm going to get is a flat 28" widescreen. We're just students you see!

Freeview isn't that good here so we just use satellite for TV so I'm not even going to get a digital ready TV. When the time comes I'll just get a freeview receiver.

My Tv is about 6 years old but recently the picture has sunken in it's all out of shape I'll take a photo and upload it to show you what's wrong. Anyway I think becuase of this it's on it's last legs...

The shop will inform tv licensing for you. All you provide is your name and address, and the shop is obliged to do the rest....

here's a pic. The Sky banner looks a bit star wars-ish and sometimes there are black half circles at the left and right hand side - like the TV is bowl shaped...

Have you thought about renting? Very cost effective for short term use (1,2 oe 3 years given that you are a student) esp if you are spreading the cost between a bunch of you (i lived with 7 others in my third year and we rented a massive top of the range set for not a lot). If you do a search there have been a few mentions of rental companies in this forum over the past week or so.

Do you still need a TV license even if you don't use it to receive TV? I mean if you only use it for DVDs and stuff... Just wondering if you could tell them that when they ask for TV license details.

But I do use it for TV so I'm going to have to pay my TV licence. There's only two of us and it was my TV so I'm buying the new TV and it will be mine to take away so renting isn't an option.

Yes but make sure the vehicle you take it home in is big enough,

For example, My Son used to work in our local Comet, His job was in the warehouse and part of his duties was to take items people had bought out to their cars for them,

One day this couple had bought a 32" Widescreen TV and he was asked to take it out to their car, When he arrived at the car he discovered it was a Corsa???

I wont tell you exactly what he said but thick and s**t came into it.

Just before you shell out, have you tried the supermarkets? Asda, Tesco and Aldi have some fantastic deals that you can buy off the shelves, and their warranty policies / no quibble returns are very good.

Heres a 28" from Tesco for £199 http://www.tesco.com/electrical/product.aspx?R=8289521&bci=284|Televisions*4294966421|28.00&in_merch=1&in_merch_title=Bestsellers&in_merch_name=Toshiba+28N53B+28''+Nicam+Stereo+TV+-+(Silver)

Empire Direct also so some good deals - theres a few under £250 with free stands. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conten...escreen+TV.htm

Glad to hear that, My Son In Law works for Mastercare, The people who deliver washing machines, Fridge freezers Tv's ect on behalf of Curries and some of the stories he tells are very funny,

For example the in thing at the moment is these huge American fridge freezers and him and his mate often have trouble delivering them as some peoples houses are just to small to get them in, So they have to take them back and the customer has to order something smaller.

He went to one Woman's house and they just could not get it in the Kitchen as the doorway was to small, So they told her that but all she kept saying was, I have paid to have it delivered, He tried explaining that it wouldn't fit but she just kept on saying, I have paid etc,

So in the end he said what do you want us to do then knock the wall down to get it in?

I think the trouble is People see these in spacious showrooms and think, That is nice i will get one forgetting that it wont fit in their house.
