I've just moved house and want to get a home entertainment cabinet to hold a home cinema amp, dvd player, tape deck, video recorder.

It needs to have glass doors, so that I can use the devices with a remote control when shut; drawers for remotes etc would be nice and it does not need to house the TV. Not really bothered about size, as long as it can hold all my gear.

I've had a look in the usual places, John Lewis, Argos etc, and not seen anything I like. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can source one of these; budget ~ £100-£200 mark. Any ideas welcome at this point!

You dont mention what size of TV (or type) that needs to go on it - have a look at http://www.standanddeliver.com/acatalog/tvstands.html

Personally I would go for http://www.standanddeliver.com/acata...quinox_AV.html if it was for a plasma screen - be careful though as extra shelves can be added and some retailers post photos with the extra shelf on it but not included in the price

Stands Unique have some superb cabinets with removeable adjustable 10mm glass shelves and glass doors.
Unfortunately their beautiful hardwood designs are around £1000.
Mine currently has 8 devices but check out their site for some smaller ones.
I paid £300 about 8 years ago for some DIY crap from MFI(or similar) and it was chipboard shite, like most of the cheap DIY units.
The SU unit is now 7 years old and looks as good as it did on day one.
Don't cut corners now and it will actually be more cost effective in the long run.

ive just got myself a beauty from apollo, again they're not cheap but solid hardwood legs and 12mm tempered glass look real nice.

i totaly agree with mongosito, dont skrimp on your stand. there's nothing worse than a few grands worth of av in an awful argos stand. a steady platform for your gear will also improve quality of sound and picture etc...

I mentioned that it does not need to house the TV; this is mostly because I'm not going to replace the TV immediately but will be going for a 42" or larger at some point, so the bigger the better really.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have a quick browse now and see what's on offer.

I like that a lot. Unfortunately I need drawers and glass doors to stop my youngest from fiddling with the buttons; hifi equipment is like fire to a moth to him.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I may wait a couple more months and save up for a better one.

By housing the TV I assumed you ment you didnt need one where the TV is actually inside the cabinate (and you have doors that close infront of the screen) rather than the TV wont be sitting on top of it either.

There are a few in the other section which have doors - didnt look too closely though.

I appreciate your help guys; you've given me some pointers into some interesting furniture. I particularly like the stuff Astaroth pointed me towards; I may forsake the glass doors and enclosed system with something more like that and buy a tazer so that I can teach my children not to touch stuff. Thanks again.

I'm still not sure; hence my vague original posting. I've got a pretty old 28" Philips 4:3 CRT telly (more than 11 years old) and some nice home entertainment equipment; the problem is that my new lounge is at least twice as big as my old one so the telly looks really small. However, I'm tight and like running stuff into the ground. Maybe if I place a vase on top of the telly and it was to accidentally pour it's water into the back of the telly....

"Hello, Direct Line...."
