what TV and DVD Recorder do you have (full model numbers)? Also, has it EVER worked (eg did you previoulsy have it hooked up to a VCR)?

Does the DVD-R have an analogue or Digital tuner?
If it only has an analogue tuner then you will not be able to pick up digital channels directly. The only way you might be able to record a digital channel is if the TV can feed what channel it is tuned to back down the SCART lead to the DVD-R. If it can then you will need to set the TV to the appropriate channel - if you are lucky it might have a timer function that will wake up the tuner from standby, otherwise you will have to leave the TV on all the time. On the DVD-R you set it to record from whatever SCART the TV is connected to - common names for this are AV, AUX, AU, Ext, E, L or Line plus a number if there are more than one. You select this as the source in the timer list instead of BBC1/whatever. If the TV cannot feed the tuner output back to the DVD-R then your only option, short of buying a new DVD-R with Digital tuner, is to buy a cheap STB to hook up to a second SCART on the DVD-R that you use only for recording. Also by needing the TV tuner to record digital you are somewhat stuffed if you want to record one digital channel while watching a different one. Unless your telly has the luxury of twin tuners (extremely unlikely) then you are only able to watch and record the same channel. You can of course record an analogue channel while watching digital using the DVD-R's tuner. What you might not be able to do though is record a digital channel using the TV's tuner and watch an analogue channel at the same time. Although the TV will probably use separate tuner stages for analogue and digital I would not be surprised if they cannot work independently. |

The only information I can find about the DVD-R is that it only has an analogue tuner. Which means you are going to be dependant on the TV for all your digital viewing and recording.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any such thing as a Bush website (yet) so I can't look at a manual for the thing to see if it allows the tuner output to be fed back down the SCART to the DVD-R. I would be surprised if it did not, but you may have to dig the manual out of the bin to find out.,
