Well, Zoom are still trying hard to help me at the moment, but yes a working landline (pstn) port is a requirement (it's a shame, as the zoom works well for voip calls).

I would like to be able to use my land line and voip using only one handset (I get too confused by having multiple handsets!)

Are there any other ATAs available which will easily pass-through calls from (and via as required) a landline from a single handset? Or could I use a pap2 and another device to connect both to my DECT phone? (Although the pap2 seems to have been out of stock for a long time on Broadband buyer's site anyway, so I don't know where I''d get it from.)

I've also received a 4-wire RJ11 to BT socket adapter like you brookester...
It seems there was a communication breakdown between Zoom headquarters in the States
and the UK office, as I specifically asked for a lead for the Telco port, not the phone port...
I've just ordered a 2-wire RJ11 and a 4-wire RJ11 crossover lead from Videk.
I'll let you know if either work....

Here's what I did (with help from Zoom support):

login to the ATA as administrator

Go to "Regionalization" -> "Other"

Change "Ring Debounce" to 25

save changes and reboot your ATA for good measure.

Hopefully this will get your landline up and running on the ATA

I've also received an email from Zoom Technical Support, who suggested the same thing and I can confirm it works fine.
I've now got a fully operational ATA and a couple of handy RJ11 leads for the spares box
Now all I have to do is work out all the UK call settings on the thing !

Congratulations lads. Now remember to write it all down and store it somewhere safe for when it all goes pear-shaped when GV do a firmware download.....

I have had the same problem with this device, and fixed it by changing the ring debounce setting to 25. (I would have posted it earlier but I have just joined this forum and was waiting to be cleared by the moderator).

This is a good bit of kit, but spoiled by the lack of documentation. The fix for this problem can only be implemented through the administrator login/password which is not in the supplied documentation.

There are many other settings available through the admin logon which look interesting but with no documentation to support them it is frustrating wondering what could be achieved in the using of them. Trial and error seems to be the only way!

Does anybody know if there is any documentation anywhere on the internet for this device other than PDF files of the supplied pamphlet?

There seems to be the possibility of setting up more than one VOIP account (4 accounts?) It would seem easy enough to set these up, but how do you switch between them?

I cant use my VOIP incoming yet. When I phone in via my VOIP number I get what sounds like a foreign (non UK ) ring tone but the phone in my house wont ring. This sound like a similar problem to the one fixed by the debounce change, but it the VOIP in that is at fault. - err I have checked that my VOIP is connected as it works for outgoing calls. I expect it will be another undocumented setting - any ideas? (BTW I use VOIPCheap).

That sounds like a NAT issue or a firewall issue - if you use a soft VOIP client, can you make an incoming call to that ?

If not, then try forwarding the following ports to your ATA from your router - Port 5060 UDP, Port 8000 - 8012 UDP, Port 5004 UDP,Port 10000 UDP and Port 3478 - 3497 UDP & TCP (list taken from SIPGate's help centre).

I've read somewhere that the Codecs your ATA uses can have an effect on ringing (or not) for incoming calls - Try setting the Zoom to only allow one particular codec at a time and see if any of them work.

You could also try setting up a couple of free accounts with VoipStunt (or another provider?), one for your PC, one for your ATA. Then make calls using the ID you're given, from PC > ATA.

You're right about the Zoom - if we had a more detailed guide it'd be even more useful.

I have forwarded the ports you mentioned Jason but with no sucess. I firewall issue seems to be logical so I have raised a call to zoom to see what they come up with.

I haven't played with the codecs yet, but will do this if I get nowhere with zoom. Any progress and I will post here. Thanks again.

I have got the Zoom 5800 to accept calls in from my land line only but can dial out via tha landline or the VoIP.

Help on the outstanding problem with incoming VoIP calls was as thin as the Zooms manual. It looks like Zoom have given up on me, the replies to my last support email were very unhelpfull and clearly designed to give me the brush off.

I have managed to receive VoIP calls to a PC. I am sure that this proves that my service proivder is ok and that my router and firewall are not a problem.

So that just leaves the Zoom device......

I think that it must be a setting, but there are so many and all are undocumented. There must be supporting documentation for this device somewhere but it seems that Zoom cant be bothered to put it into a PDF ... or they dont want to.

So if you are reading this and thinking about getting a gadget such as the Zoom 5800... take care and look at the supporting documentation. if it is poor than don't buy it. Choose, or wait for something else with a proper manual.

OK, just got a Zoom 5800 and connected to my router but haven't worked out how to connect to it. The router can see the mac address of the 5800 but I can't see how to set up connectivity to it. Any ideas?

Success, well sort of. I have now successfully connected to the 5800 and have gone through a couple of the settings but no luck getting the thing to work. I think that it may be something to do with the cables. To connect my phone to the 5800 I used the supplied RJ11 cable and the cable that I disconnected from my phone I used to connect the 5800 to my landline.

I suspect that this may be wrong, any suggestions of kit that I may need and where to get them?

Being a bit thick I am now after something that allow me to connect my 5800 to my current landline (PSTN) but can't seem to find what I need.

Oh the wonders of the internet, had a quick search and found what I need on Ebay

Now got all the right adaptors thanks to BexTech but am still having a few problems. I have gone through the settings including changing the Ring Debounce but get the message "Not ready to make calls" at the main page for the ATA.

Can anyone help please?

Getting there slowly but still having a few problems. The Zoom 5800 is now ready to make calls but the phone attached will only make calls on my PSTN line and not my VOIP line and also when I receive a call the attached phone does not ring (ring debounce is set to 25).

Any ideas please?

Success . The problem appeared to be with the caller display unit that was connected. Everything is now working great thanks to the advice and help on here.

Hello. I have just ordered one of these devices. Do I need to order that extra cable adapter with the ring capacitor or will it work out of the box if I change the debounce setting? I was planning on using the phone cable supplied to connect the phone and then use my existing phone cable with the uk end to connect the device to the wall socket. Will this work? Cheers

I may be corrected by someone else, but I think this ATA generates its own ringing signal, even when it "passes through" the pots line ring signal. So I reckon you'll be ok once your debounce is tweaked.. Let us know how you get on

Thanks for replying. So what wires are you using with yours? Just the wires that came with it and, the wire that was connecting your phone to the wall? How have you got these arranged? I dont mean to be a pest I would just like the installation to be as painless as possible when it arrives!

Got my zoom today set it up no problems. I did not need any extra cables it just worked luckily. The dbounce trick worked a treat thanks! No need for an adapter or ring capacitor! Quality seems good though pstn calls seem a little quiet, I need to get hold of some proper instructions, anyone got detailed setup instructions for the uk? Or now how to make them louder?

What are non geographical calls on your phone bill? Are these voip calls to you? If the person calling via voip has a number assigned to their voip phone will these call charges not occur?

Non-geographical mean those number that are 0844, 0845, 0870 or 0871 numbers.

VoIP Stunt usually give you an 01 or 02 number unless you don't live in a major area-code, then you get a VoIP Number.

Calls to your VoIP Stunt number from a landline will cost a normal call.

Dialling out from VoIP Stunt you won't be charge for calls to 01 or 02 or 0560 VoIP numbers, if you can dial by username then the call won't come out of your free minutes and will just be free, though the system may check whether the number is its own.
