Eldorado was the best soap that UK TV has ever seen.

It started off crap but in the last few months it was on air it got fantastic.

Well what did you think??

I quite liked it for a first episode.
The sets were stunningly good and I liked the location clip in Glasgow, it gave the storyline a bit of reality. The script was meaty and well acted.

In my opinion there were 2 miscasting errors, firstly the bride's sister who played Chic Cherry's wife in High Road - she was a mouthy, in your face character there too.
Johnny Beatty I feel was a wrong choice because you're always aware that you're watching Johnny Beatty.

Having said that, it's early days but it's certainly streets ahead of tired old 'High Road'.

I missed the first episode (well, its the first time I've ever looked in this thread as I don't watch soaps usually).

I hope that I can get BBC Scotland via the digi box - this is one series I would love to watch (originating from that area and having family in Dumbarton).

Is there any of the storyline that I need to know about in the event I can watch this tomorrow night?

Hmm, a lot of characters were vaguely introduced but the whole episode centred around the wedding of the proprieter of 'The Ship' and his girlfriend. The new wife has a daughter who looks rather nasty as she is loyal to the ex-husband - who incidentally turned up at the reception and was thrown out by the groom.

You didn't miss the bride's outfit - it was minging!

I wouldn't worry if you missed this - what I saw of it suggests that it is pretty poor fare. I did't think much of the acting - especially the kids - and the storyline wasn't much better.

Sorry - but I really wanted to enjoy it but didn't!

Well I was quite taken by the first episode but the second one was uninteresting, in fact I got up after 10mins and went back to the computer. I think the problem was the 'bride' (can't remember her name) was getting boring.

The storyline so far has centred around her ex-husband, new husband and reappearance of ex-boyfriend - all vying for her attention. She pays a visit to the ex-husband - to warn him off. Pays a visit to her ex-boyfriend - to warn him off... all within minutes of returning from her honeymoon.
Not very plausible.

Totally agree with you ! And to think it was only axed because of personality clashes at the BBC.

Why don't the BBC just repeat it on BBC Choice for all of us to see?

Good idea ! Or they can even use it to liven up their BBC2 or BBC4 schedules instead of relying on so many repeats.

I see the first episode got the raspberry award in the Sunday Mail. I also read that since it's up against Brookside, Phil Redmond has big storylines planned to win over the viewers.

Phil Redmond is all washed out as far as I am concerned. Brookside should have been dropped some time ago - he took his original winning formular and ruined it with all his cast changes, controversial & absurd story lines, issue led story threads coming from nowhere, character personality changes overnight to fit in with script requirements etc etc

Have to agree, I stopped watching some time ago and only catch up with the omnibus if I can be bothered. The storylines drag on for far too long, can't believe that Ant is still bursting into tears and Ray hasn't done away with Jessie!
Claire Sweeney is set to return in November for a brief spell.

Giver River City a chance!!!

The cast need time to gel and build up good chemistry i am confident it will get much better!!!

The early Eastenders episodes were pretty dire too u no!!

I cant wait till its been on a few weeks and im really into it!!

I live on the Gareloch! Maybe I know some of your family!

'River City' is watchable but very few of the cast can act convincingly. I'm hoping it'll get better as it's unfair to judge a soap when it's still in it's very early stages. I agree that it should be run nationally on BBC Choice. That would allow it to reach a much bigger audience.

It would make sense maybe for a sunday omnibus on BBC 2 Scot which the wholw of the UK could see via Sky!
