Sky+ V1 RGB Output
Stafford
20-04-2006
Hey guys…my set up is a sky+ V1,with the 1st scart output (sky+TV output) to my Philips widescreen and scart 2(sky + Video output) to my Pioneer 433. The sky+ output is switched to RGB and scart leads are Profigold.
When I watch sky through my pioneer I get the RGB shift and good picture quality although when I enter the sky menu I get a slight fuzzy look with some of the yellow highlights, like you see with the Pal setting.I couldn’t understand why I was getting this pal fuzziness. So I changed the output on my Sky menu to Pal and watched on my Pioneer, nothing happened. No picture shift back to the right. So I guessed maybe the pioneer was inputting a Pal signal from the Video output on my Sky+ and converting this to RGB. Which don’t get me wrong is a superb picture but not RGB.
I had a cup of tea and thought ok I’ll switch the scarts around, put the Sky + TV scart output into my Pioneer and the Sky + video scart output into my TV and gosh what a difference. All trace of Pal fuzziness has gone when I switch from Pal to RGB (viewing through my Pioneer). I can’t believe that the Sky + V1 does not output RGB from both scart outputs. Before you ask me yes my Pioneer is set up to input and output RGB.
I’ve done a search on this and no else has said anything about the video output on the Sky +V1 not outputting RGB via the Video scart output.

I don't know is Sky+ is any different, but I don't think there are any machines that will output RGB on their 2nd SCART, the one that is intended for a VCR. The manufacturers still don't get it that we'd like to record in RGB too!

As I see it, the only option is to get a powered SCART splitter and use the SCART 1 only, for output to both the TV and the recorder. Or a SCART router such as the Quintro or Trilogy that have two independant RGB outputs. Or route the Sky+ SCART 1 through the recorder so that it doesn't go to the TV directly.

Although I don't understand why you seemed to get RGB when watching through the Pioneer but it changed to PAL when you went into the menu.

The fact that Sky boxes only output RGB on their tv scart and not the video scart has been mentioned on about a million and one threads

Hi

Try pressing the TV/DVD button on the remote and make sure it is in DVD mode. If in TV mode when just watching the signal through the recorder (when it is on so monitoring the input) the output is composite regardless of the menu settings.
