Not sure if this is answered anywhere or if its possible, but when I have a timer set and are doing something else like playing Xbox live, the timer starts and switches over to the Toppy scart input.

This usually occurs at inappropiate moments, just as I am about to shoot someone on Xbox live, so I have to scramble for my tv remote and switch it back to the Xbox input and usually find that I have been killed.

I have played around with my TV and searched the manual and cannot find anything to stop devices auto switching to their input channel.

Is there anything I can do to the Toppy to stop it doing this?

Well, you could connect it via YUV. That'd stop it's nasty little tricks. hehe.

Nothing you can do to the toppy, its because it comes out of standby to record.

If you want to you could turn the toppy on well before hand and then press the TV/SAT button (1st line of 3, middle button). As long as you dont have any TAP's that use that button it will stop the unit interupting your game because it will already be on.

The other way is to cut a pin in the scart lead so it never causes the switch signal to pass through, think its pin 8.

I wonder if Topfield will change this behaviour in the next firmware realease. It would be ideal if the Toppy would switch the SCART when you manually turn the Toppy on or when you have a Watch timer set, but then you don't want it to switch when waking up for a recording.

I doubt it.

You'll notice when the Toppy boots that it switches the TV immediately. This switching is done by the firmware loader (which is separate from the firmware). You can only update the loader using a PC and the process has an element of danger: A firmware upgrade failure is recoverable, but if the loader gets broken it's game over.

It's a shame because the behaviour is simple and should have been easy to get right.
In the loader:
Toppy launching due to Power key = switch
Toppy launching due to Timer = don't switch
In the firmware:
Toppy launching due to Watch Timer = switch

I think the best firmware only fix we might get is for the Toppy to switch the TV back again when it's finally booted

This happens with the Humax loader - during its startup process the machine emits a signal down the scart which switches TV to PVR - which for recordings to be made while the unit is in standby shouldnt be needed.

Humax are making the next version of the loader which I have tested and works well. So its conceivable that Toppy can do one that will resolve this problem. But I dont know if this will be something Humax/Topfield can do via OTA or if it will be PC connection only. If PC connection only I suspect they will make it available on their web site in their download section or email it to customers who contact their helpdesk about the problem.

I am using an expensive quality scart cable so I dont want to be chopping pins off, guess I will have to remember to leave it switched on if I dont want it to interrupt my gaming.

Would be nice if Topfield came out with a solution though.

You shouldn't need to cut the pin off.
In most cases, if you can open the scart shell, it's possible to slide the offending pin back and insulate it.
