I have just purchased a Pioneer DVR630H and have problems getting it work with my Sky Digibox. The Sky box is a Thomson DSI4212.

The error I'm getting is when the Guide Plus+ system on the Pioneer tries to change the channel on Sky. It frequently gives a Sky error "There is a technical problem with this channel. Please try again later." This prevents me using any channel on Sky and I have to power cycle the Digibox to get the signal back again.

My setup is simple; the Sky feed goes to the Digibox. I then have a SCART connection from the TV scart socket on the Digibox to the AV/L1 on the Pioneer and a second SCART connection from the Pioneer to my television. I am not using any RF cables at all.

When I setup the Guide Plus+, it all seems ok; the Guide Plus+ can correctly change to channel 101. I then manually tune the Skybox to 410 and put the Pioneer into standby. Give it 10 minutes and I get an EPG download which correctly sets the host channel as Tuner/65521/ESPRT. I can then leave the Sky box on any channel and wait until the next EPG download which again works - it changes the channel to 410 and gets the programme data.

After this, however, if I try to manually tune the Sky box to another channel (just after the EPG download is complete), I get the "technical problem" error and have to reset. Similarly, if I try to select the channel within the Guide Plus+ on the Pionner I get the same lockup and "technical problem". All of this means apart from having to power cycle the Sky box after every EPG download, it's also not possible to set up recording through Guide Plus+ which was one of the reasons for getting the Pioneer in the first place.

I've read elsewhere that there can be problems with using the text functions on Sky which I understand the EPG uses. Does anyone know of any workaround for this? I've tried doing the backup reset on the Digibox and also the new installation.

I do still have a terrestrial ariel, which in theory means I should be able to get the EPG from ITV instead of Eurosport. But I've never got this to work. I do an autoscan on the Pioneer box to set up the channels, let EPG get the host channel but then at the next download, it just does nothing. Last time, the EPG was on for 24 hours but no programme data got downloaded. Can someone give me a simple way to set this up? Do I just put the aerial feed directly into the Pioneer or should it go to the Digibox and then to the Pioneer? Do I need to put an RF cable between the Pioneer and the TV? What should the host channel line read in Guide Plus+ to ensure it will use ITV and not Eurosport? Living in Scotland, I get STV instead of ITV - does that make any difference?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Graeme.
