Sorry if this has been mentioned previously, but we get these strange occurences:

1) if you are listening to a radio program and then go to the archive to watch a recorded TV program, it plays but with no sound. switching to a TV channel before going to the archive solves the problem.

2) occasionally when playing a recording, we get no proper sound, just a commentary on the action (as if it was an extra audio channel for the partially sighted). Rebooting the machine solves the problem.

Antyone else suffering these strange glitches

That's a glitch with selecting the wrong soundtrack; it's noted in the bug database, but in the meantime just press the Opt button on the remote, choose Sountrack and then select the other one; the 'silent' sountrack you hear is actually just the audio description soundtrack for a programme without an audio description.

(Unless you have a very old firmware, before August last year, in which case sometimes you would get recordings without a soundtrack, but it sounds like it's simply the selection you're having problems with.)

I was led to believe that you can download and install new firmware with a pc and usb connection. Is this correct?

Yes, you can. And in fact most of the firmwares have been distributed that way; there was an OTA in December, and as soon as I know when it'll be repeated - or if we'll get a new one OTA instead - I shall make sure I let people know.

The announcements group on www.toppy.org.uk will get an email when we have that information, too.
