Just been asked this for a friend of a friend,

"He wants to use remote desktop to access his home pc. He knows his internet ip address but when he tries to connect to it he cannot. Is it possible to connect to a computer on the homechoice network? For example could you host a web site on your home computer over the network. Does the homechoice box have a firewall built in, is this the cause?"

I have always assumed that it was possible, since I think your IP address is assigned in the HC domain and doesn't appear to be NATed. I HOPE that it is possible because I have plans to set up a streaming media centre and would need remote access, natch. Anyone have any ideas?

IP addresses are not static on the HC network, if you want a continually accessible address you need to use a DNS updater (such as http://www.dyndns.com/). I host web apps from my LAN through my HC connection for development purposes and have no trouble doing this.
Depending on what traffic you're trying to pass into / out of your LAN you may of course need to alter the rules on your firewall and router.
