Is your component cable a HDTV cable ? if so you should have an output on the cable itself for a digital toslink (if it was the HiDef cable you should've got one with it) simply plug this into the tv and set the sound on the tv to your liking.
If it's a composite cable like the one you get with it then you can't get sound at all, although I am surprised that a modern TV doesn't have audio in jacks on it. |

Andy
The component video cable on the XBox360 has 5 phonos for plugging into the TV. Three are the component video connections, 2 are traditional audio left and audio right. On the 42PF9830 - as far as I know - the only stereo phono inputs are on the side connection port and on the DVI connector in the main interface port. I can't tell from the documentation I have whether you can tie the component input to the analogue audio input located with the DVI connector. Pages 12 & 29 of the user manual suggest that you can, but you'll need to try it . Page 12 is the important one. However, this will only give you analogue stereo. If you want to use full DD5.1, then the XBox 360 only outputs the bitstream on a fibre cable ( TOSLink ); if you look carefully at the connector which plugs into the XBox, you will see that adjacent to where the cable leaves the connector there is a socket for plugging in the TOSLink cable. If the TV only has 2 speakers, then you won't get much benefit from using a DD bitsream, you would normally take the optical connection to a 5.1. amplifier or receiver. If the only way to get audio into the TV from the XBox is to use the digital connection, then you will need a TOSLink <> Coaxial converter since the TV only supports a coaxial connection for digital audio. Have a look at http://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk/d...r/display.html ; this would convert the optical output from the XBox to a coaxial for connection to the TV. Remember you will need a TOS Link cable and a Coaxial cable as well. Hope this helps. |

Andy,Cerb many thanks for your info. Cerb took your advice, purchased a optical to coaxial converter with tos link cable and coaxial cable.from audiovisualonline. Very quick dispatch. Works a treat. It's a pity Philips couldn't provide me with this information, once again many thanks guys.
