Shoul I Get Homechoice?
babysweet

Hello, All

Hope you don't mind me asking advice. I'm thinking of subscribing but wonder what others experience has been. The basic package looks as if it would suit me as I'm not interested in film or sport. I'd just have the TV for documentaries, soaps, news and general programmes. I'm also away most weekends so would like to record quite a few programmes. I use my broadband every day, but just for shopping, banking and general surfing. I don't download much. I'm at work all week so the free calls evenings and weekends sounds ok. I don't understand a lot of technical terms used but would just like to know how reliable Homechoice is. I don't want to have something where the broadband or TV keep crashing, and the phoneline is down.

At present I have a Freeview box, but my ariel is crap. Any advice gratefully received. I live in central London and have a BT line.

Thanks
Swithin

Hi

I would recommend Homechoice for you to get. The basic package combined witht he Telephone and Broadband makes a very good value deal.

I have been with Homechoice now for almost a year from previously only having Freeview and BT, I am extremely happy with everything and think it is a good move to make.

Thanks very much, Swithin. It does seem to have everything I'll want, and does seem good value. I was just a bit concerned about the reliability aspect.

Reliability has been good for me. I have had the service for several years. Very few issues in that time. Much, much better than when I had ntl!

Same here - very reliable indeed - no need for concern there.

my friends have it and it seems to suit them, one thing i didnt like abuot it was the software/interface.
their broadband does crash often but i think that might be their wireless router.
i think homechoice only offer 2meg but services are coming out with 8 and 20 meg.... might be cheaper to wait and shop around.... BT Vision is launching sometime this yaer... dont know if you can wait but it might be worth it

Thanks, In_the_know, and Terry2. Your comments are encouraging. From the Homechoice website it looks as if they are offering 8 now. I could hold on to see what BT Vision is like, but one of my reasons for looking at Homechoice is that I want to dump BT. I've had endless admin problems with them and am sick of it. Still, I guess there are problems of one kind or another with most of these providers

Homechoice installed 31 March. Much happier with them than I was with NTL. Have recommended it to my next door neighbour, who plans to move once his NTL contract expires (next month I think) and to a colleague at work.

Please don't give your opinion about something when you don't know the first thing about it. HC have had 8Mb since september 2005.
Generally its very reliable, if it has the channels and price you are happy with then get it. the on demand and replay are very good bonuses.

Thank you very much, everyone, for your replies. They really have been useful. I think I will take the plunge!

Good Luck!

One hint I would give is to look very closely at the opening offers. My friend took it up (on my recommendation) but looked at the Basic Package that he wanted. However, the discount on that for the 1st 3 months was small compared with the Big Pack which I have.

My suggestion would be to take the Big Pack for the 3 months and then drop down if you so wish...

Babysweet if you do decide to 'take the plunge' you could earn yourself £70 cashback (minus a £5 admin fee) simply by signing up for Homechoice via the Quidco.com link.

Not sure if you're familiar with Quidco but I'll be happy to explain if you're interested?

As those Tesco ads say - 'every little helps' !!

If you already have broadband I dont think you would be able to get casback as I think homechoice calls you back

not having a pop here but what softweare interface are you refering to is it the interface on the tv or do you mean something on the internet side.

homechoice don't use a software interface unless you are refering to the account management interface for setting up email addresses and such.

no worries just wanted to clear that up incasepeople thought it was an aol type interface.

as for the tv interface I don't find it that bad it's certainly no worse than NTL's P.O.S. interface in fact i'd definately rate it higher than ntl's but not as slick as sky's

Thanks. An explanation would be helpful. I confess I have never heard of Quidco.

That was my experience today. I tried to sign up online, entered my MAC, then the next screen said someone would call me....and they did, and I completed sign up over the phone. Quidco says £70 for complete online subscription, so Im sure I wont get it. On the phone the lady told me existing bb people cant complete sign up online.

Hi babysweet, Quidco is a cashback website. Each time you click on one of their links and buy something they receive a commission from that company and pass it back on to you.

In return they charge a one-off annual admin fee of £5 (which they only take once you've earned a minimum of £5 in commissions). As Homechoice offers £70 for signing up via Quidco I believed that you would therefore be £65 up on the deal but as one or two folks on here have pointed out existing broadband users are unable to complete the Homechoice registration process online (which seems unfair to me !).

Its still worth using Quidco (www.Quidco.com) though as your cashbacks soon start to accumulate and there are no catches.

Also if you look at the following website you can see how Homechoice compares to other broadband ISPs for speed, reliability and customer service.

Good luck with your choice !
