Hi

I have got Skype VOIP with Skypeout. Now I want to get Skypein but can anyone tell me is there a way which will enable me to make calls out and receive calls with the PC turned off but the modem on?

Post number 4 last paragraph. You'll have to ditch Skype and get a proper service, along with a VOIP router. I've been running this for around a year now, replacing my phone line with this setup. The service has been good and I've more than recouped the cost of the router back. Don't scrimp - it will set you back around £70+ for the router I mention, but the cheaper ones aren't worth the hassle they will cause you.

(Here's the first link I found to one - http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=129559 - you might find it cheaper if you look around).

I too believe Skype Hype is a toy town service.

I agree also. I love being able to turn my PC off and still use proper, standards compliant, cheaper SIP / IAX2 based VoIP. I do pay for my geographical numbers (sipgate didn't work well for me, and I wanted my numbers to come in on IAX2 not SIP) and it's very reliable.

Why pay extortionate rates for a rubbish service (skype) than use sipgate or voiptalk etc with an adaptor that plugs into your router which is far cheaper and easier?

That plus Skype's laughable (unless you're paying them) SkypeOut rates (go take a look what they charge for 0845 & 0870 - which are already exorbitantly charged at 3p/m & 7.5p/min by BT et al), Skype software taking over your PC and potentially allowing your machine to become a "supernode" and maxing out your connection with other people's calls....

Thanks everyone for your comments. I started with Skype as it was the only one I heard about at the time. Now I shall go and check out the others.
