Help! Getting unusual/unwanted phone calls

Hello,

Yesterday I received several phone calls of a nuisance variety. A particular number called me several times and when I answered I was subjected to about 10 seconds of silence (only background noise could be heard) before whoever called me hung up. Today I have received twice as many calls.

What is really odd is that the number is recognised by me as being my old mobile number. Now I thought someone may have my old phone and be using it, so today when I finished work I went home and went and looked in the draw in the room and found my old phone a Nokia 3410 which was still broken as it was when I bought a Motorola V300 handset. When I opened the phone up I found inside my 'One2One' sim card with the same number as what's been calling me.

How can I receive calls from a sim card not in use? From a phone that is broken and incapable of making calls? How can I stop these calls from being received?

I think numbers are redistributed some time after a SIM is deactivated

they are. normally 6 months after deactivation.... there's been loads of problems of people registering new phones, but they have recylced numbers, and they get hammered for things like Jamster etc... as the original owner was registered with that service

Yes, numbers are re-used, exactly the same way as landline numbers.

Okay I can accept a company recycling a number, but how'd the new owner manage to get my phone numbers to start harrassing me with calls?

Don't keep answering it then, they will soon get fed up.

I use the...

Settings > Calls > Manage calls > Accept calls > only from list

The list gets edited depending on what personality i use

It works, do you have the option on your phone ?

Or, you could answer the phone and put it down. They will soon get sick of ringing you when they realise how much credit they are burning...
