Three and dialing 188***
James Clayton

I tried calling 118 192 and 118 150 from my Three phone, but it says the number doesn't exist !!

I called 118 118 and got through, are Three not allowing some directory service, this seems unfair if this is the case?.

I wanted to call BT's service because I've had some dodgy experiences with the others giving out old information before, but It seems I can't from my Three phone. ?

Only BT offer access to all 118 services.

Cable phone lines only have a limited access too, mobile services fewer still.

It all depends on whether the 118 operator has agreed costs and access with the Telecom provider.

As for old information, all 118 providers use the same data discs, so all information is the same, this was one of the requirements that OFCOM made, that there would be only one data source.

I don't know how much Three charge for calls for freephone numbers, but must be cheaper than 118 nnn numbers.

So you can use: 0800 0192 190 (Which is free from landlines).

Isn't BT's 118 number 118 500?

Anyway though, as BexTech says, access to 118 numbers is erratic unless you're on BT - for example, IIRC quite a few 118 numbers that are charged per call don't work on Orange... except Orange's own, not too surprisingly. Saying that though, Orange doesn't seem to support that many 118 numbers full stop.

And that data is currently managed by BT!

Other 118 operators such as Yellow pages (118 247) also have their own specialised if somewhat limited databases to work with but they always fall back on the BT database for residential numbers.

Ah ok, thanks for that. It's so hard to remember who you're calling and what the costs are, but i'll use that 0800 number, thanks.
