Samsung T100 and O2...
Jai
20-09-2002
Heya,

I am think of getting the Samsung T100 phone on contract with O2.

Has anybody had any problems with the phone or O2??

I have heard that the Text messaging is slow - but I currently have a Sony J6 - (which is also slow) - so that is of no concern.

All comments appreciated.

Thanks.
Jai.

I haven't actually used the T100 myself, although I've nearly bought one on a couple of occasions. I have talked to a few people who have them however and they have all been very positive about it, especially in terms of the software.

The only thing that kinda puts me off one over my current Nokia is the distinct lack of voice dialling, which believe it or not I use quite a lot and would miss.

I bought a T100 as my birthday prezzie to myself in August. It does have very good voice dial facilities. Just select a persons listing in the address book; access voice dial in the options-say their name twice & you can then voice dial them with almost 100% reliability.
The software is easy on the eye - logical & easy to use.
Polyphonic sound is crisp & the software that comes with the phone makes changing background piccies & ringtones simplicity itself.
All in all, a worthwhile upgrade i recommend without hesitation.
(plus, it`s amazing how often you hear "looks like something from Star Trek" from people when they play with it )

O2 I've no problems with and their reception is great. I work in a basement where u can't get T-Mobile or Orange phones to work

Personally there are only 2 good things about the T100 1) It can display over 4,000 colours 2) Polymophic ringtones. Apart from that it comes no where close to the SE T68i.

Ok 256 colours might be a bit crap but u can access your pop email from it, have themes, store tones of ringtones on it (ringtones have been improved since the T68 to T68i upgrade) Tri Band, Screen savers, backgrounds which u can download too it. All this free http://www.mrtones.com/ = latest ringtones http://www.esato.com = free backgrounds. It also has GPRS and MMS, 9 games, Wap Version 2 and lots more.

What, you mean it really does have voice dial?!?!?!?! Can't remember which websites it was I looked at but they definately had a great big X next to voice dial. I've just checked on The Link and they certainly do have it marked as a feature.

That might just have changed my choice of my next phone!

Yay.

OK, sorry to keep coming back to this but I'm now more confused than I was before...

According to The Link's website, the T100 does have voice dialling, or at least it does when you check on the specs for T-Mobile and 02. When you select a T100 on Orange and check the specs both voice memo and voice dialling are marked with a great big orange X next to them.

I checked on the Orange website, and it makes no mention of voice dialling or voice memo on the T100, but it does make mention of these features on other phones such as the Nokia 6310i.

So my question now is can someone definately tell me whether or not a T100 on Orange has voice features enabled or not?

AFAIK voice dialling isn't network dependant and I can't really see why it wouldn't work, but its odd that two places I've looked have 'discrepancies' about the feature.

Oh and I've looked on the Samsung site and its totally hopeless, Phones4u's site is rubbish at listing features and I just plain can't get Carphonewarehouse to work at all.

Help!!!

Just a word of warning that if you are after decent customer service avoid O2 like the plague. I had massive problems with them when they were Cellnet and only ended two months ago with them admitting they were entirelt at fault. I understand bad customer service can be subjective to the individual but I also have two colleagues at work who've had problems.

I've taken my business elsewhere and told them I would do my best to stop anyone else from using them. I was signed up via the Carphone Warehouse and I think they have their own customer service department so it may just be them but beware anyway.

O2 has serveral service providers, so when you go to different shops you might get a different provider. There used to be lots but BT bought quite a few a while back beacuse they were up to mischief allegedly..

If you go CPW (I do like the CPW honest) you get Value telecom as you service provider who are a bit tacky compared to some on the others and they have the stupid bill limiting service which is a nice idea except they have a habit of cutting you off when your roaming so you have to get it set high and you can still go over the limit so useless really. My other phones are with BTmobile (or whatever its called now) as a service provider and they are much better than value telecom!

T100 looks excellent http://www.infosync.no/news/2002/n/2369.html

^ she says a lot about the voice dialing

but the V100 should be out before the end of the year and has all the features the T100 is missing like GPRS and infrared

Hi again.

Picked up a T100 today and its great. I couldn't really wait any longer as I broke my 6210i yesterday

Couldn't get a decent price for the T100 on Orange anywhere - Orange themselves wanted £150 to change (later reduced to £100).

I eventually got it for the fab price of £4.99 from The Link on T-Mobile Everyone 100 (which until the end of the month has an extra 50% inclusive minutes free for the duration of your stay on that tariff, so I get 150 any network anytime minutes) and 50 texts for an extra £3.50.

Happy now

Thats as may be, but the important thing to me is that I got what is appropriate for me, when I wanted it for what I feel is a reasonable price. I'm not a high user any more (used to use anything up to 1000 minutes a month but not these days) and don't send any more than about 40 texts in a month.

mobileshop.com are giving it away for free, as long as you take the Orange Xnetwork 200 thingy for 30 quid per month (min. 4 months). After 4 months, you can go down to a cheaper tarrif if you need!

I got mine and on Orange, I can happily say that voice dialling, commanding and memo's work quite well!

The only downside was the lack of software for backing up / editing your phone book. It would have also been nice if Samsung had a conduit for Outlook as then I would use the organiser functions instead of my ageing Palm Pilot!

what difference does the WAP 1.1 have on the older version? And also, can you download new games to the T100?

By the sound of the above posts - the T100 is a great phone!! Thanks everyone!!
