Calling the service "the emperor's new clothes", Channel 4 has dropped its 'red button' interactive television service in order to focus on developing better content for the web. Teh British TV station's chief exec told the Guardian:

"We've dropped our red button service. At a time of lots of different possible technologies and options, our view is that red button technology is a clunky and inefficient use of capacity," Mr Duncan said.

"It's not much loved or used by audiences, it's too expensive, and it has been rather overtaken by the opportunities offered by the internet and broadband.
The red button service does not help Channel 4 fulfil its public service remit and it doesn't offer a way to make money"

there was a year round red button service though which diddnt do much for C4, remember? - you could press red and it just took you to a 2 year old bb game a friends quiz and something else, oh and programme news which was slowly updated. So this could be the interactive service they are talking about. If C4 wanted, they could easily continue the red button for BB.

I am sorry if this is old, but I hope that E4 carry the main coverage and not just online streaming.... nothing better than watching in bed as party goodies are given out!

I would guess its the same as CBB.....live on E4 from around midnight, through to mid afternoon.....

or 24hr streaming online with subscription....

That's my problem. I don't mind paying as overall its not that expensive (if you compare it to other forms of entertainment over a thirteen week period like going to the cinema every night for 13 weeks, or going out for a drink with mates every night for 13 weeks), however its the whole watching it on the PC that I have a problem with. It just isn't as comfortable, and Mr C and I fight over the bandwidth.
