Complete speculation:

Ricky dies but the Dr and Rose think its Mickey.
Mickey gets the choice - go back and tell them or live with his gran

They wouldn't have introduced that back story and the second chance to fix the carpet otherwise

Perhaps Ricky's gran becomes Cyberised & is about to kill everyone, then trips over the carpet

Perhaps Mickey doesn't die, but taking his place in the Tardis is the only way for Rickey to leave a Cyber-infested earth where his chances of survival are zero...

No, Noel Clarke is leaving the series at the end of this episode.

I'm with those who think Ricky dies and Mickey makes a conscious choice to stay and look after Grandma.

I'm also rather intrigued by something thenetworkbabe said in another thread - maybe alt.Pete stows away on the Tardis and hitches a ride back to our universe? The later repercussions of this is a blurring of realities that opens the way for the alt.earth cybermen to enter our universe.

Wouldn't the Reapers come into play at that point?

I was thinking the same, but maybe things are balanced out by Mickey staying on the alt.earth?

Considering the inconsistencies and generally sloppy writing that have characterised this second series, I don't think that is a concern.

Having just watched the BBC3 repeat, I'm even more disappointed with The Rise of the Cybermen. I just don't understand it: Why does Lumic need to attack the Tylers' home? Why did he need the security codes if the cybermen were just going to go through the windows? Why did he need so many cybermen at all? Why did the cybermen kill everyone without giving them a chance to volunteer for upgrade? What happens if you're driving a bus when the daily download starts? Why were the trees green and the streets strewn with fallen leaves in February? Pah.

The first series was one of the greatest televisual experiences of my entire life: I cried my eyes out at The Parting of the Ways and thought that RTD walked on water. What happened? Did he get careless? The return of the cybermen could - and should - have been an awesome episode, but it looked like something off CBBC.

Sometimes I wish people would just appreciate that the show is real at the moment - we had to wait 16 years for a new series and now everyone wants it "perfect" sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but PLEASE dont ramble on...

I agree with you. I thought that was a really poor story, and a very weak script.
Cybermen or not, I thought that was a really weak effort.

I don't expect it to be perfect - series 1 was flawed, yet utterly brilliant. Series 2 is sloppy and uneven, and that is frustrating because with a bit of tight editing of the scripts it could have been so much better. Almost every episode so far has had plot holes you could drive Queen Victoria's coach through.

I can cope with the plot holes but its the way the central story keeps on jumping thet gets me. It was quite simple to sign Billie on for 3 years and then run school reunion and fireplace girl to set up her final departure. This is silly. Rose has a relationship with trhe Doctor and Mickey that depends on who writes that week's episode. Mickey joins the tardis which had lots of mileage to explore the relationship between the doctor Rose and himself - but he probably then gets deleted from the show before he even becomes a fixture . Thats not character development its character deletion. Rose has still only visited one other planet with the Doctor yet we are stuck into an arc leading to her leaving. its all moving too fast with hardly any logic to the character development.

I think alt.Adric will come and save them with his gold star.

edit - and also mention Torchwood when he does.

With the simply bizarre BBC time keeping of this show does anyone think that we could put a sticky at the top of the list each week with the time it is being broadcast on, I would have missed it tonight if I wasn't lucky seeing an advert last night.

Has anyone considered
Spoiler
that the "Mickey" due to appear in the last two episodes is "Ricky" (now on-board the TARDIS after tonight's episode...) after "Mickey" is '...unavailable...'?

It's like when K9 was forced to stay behind with Romana behind the 'mirror' in WARRIORS' GATE; Mickey cannot return into the 'real world' due to his 'state'.

Looking forward to TAOS.

Mickey is not listed for the rest of the series, so I think he will stay on the alternate Earth with his Gran... and mend that carpet!
