Sky+HD, DVD Recorder and LCD connections
If I have my Sky+HD box connected to the LCD TV via HDMI, and connected to my DVD recorder via Scart, is there any manual switching required at the HD box or does it output to both?
And I assume I will be able to view both SD and HD transmissions via this HDMI connection? I will then connect my DVD recorder to LCD TV via component. |

It will output to both.
If you are viewing a HD channel then the scart will carry a downscaled SD version and if you are watching a SD channel then the scart is normal and the HDMI can be selected to offer 576/720 or 1080 resolutions. |

Will the PQ of SKY SD transmissions be improved over HDMI?

There would be benefits by keeping the signal in the digital domain instead of converting to analogue for output on the scart/component.
So yes there should be some improvment but lets be honest, the low bitrate channels will probably look even worse as a cleaner signal will highlight the flaws even more. A good SD channel on the other hand should show some positive results. |
