HollOaks- Why are all the storylines....
Soo long? I'm getting sick of Mel's drinking problem  , she is totally over-used as well. Of course it's good their doing it but why is is it still going on? It;s been months and months.
Same with Justin and Becca  this sends me to sleep,it's looks like it isn't going anywhere apart from in circles. |

I quite like the fact that Hollyoaks carry storylines on for so long, gives them an opportunity to build them up and make them more realistic! I love the Mel storyline, and the longer it goes on the more I get into it ... cant wait to see what happens next!

Depends on the sort of storyline.
Mel's drinking is better to be a long one. Becca and Justin....its boring now. |

I think some storylines such as the serious ones like Mel's alcoholism and Cam's OCD was built up very well and needs to drag as that way it seems realistic
Hollyoaks do have short storylines such as the comic ones which are short |

It's just the style of Mersey TV...it was the same with Brookside.
More than any other of our soaps, Hollyoaks & Brookside aim to create the majority of their storylines around the basis that they are socially relevent; that they are issue-driven. Because of this, a lot of time is put into the "issue" in question and heavy analysis of the subject is done through such a large amount of screen-time. |

Have a storyline that runs and runs is one thing, but when it runs for so long that the viewers begin to lose interest and stop caring about what is happening to the character/s involved is a bad sign. For example with Luke's rape a lot of people still seem to say that it was possibly one of the best storylines Hollyoaks ever did, and viewers really seemed to care about Luke and how he dealt with things. Then think about when Beth was raped by Scott Anderson the storyline seemed to run and run without any progression and I remember on the official Hollyoaks forum at the time a lot of people began to say they didn't care any more and were sick of Beth saying in every episode "but he raped me". It didn't mean they didn't think it was a serious issue, it was a case of the storyline not moving on and viewers getting sick of the same old stuff every episode. Look at the serial killer storyline. Months and months of speculation as to who the killer was, then we found out, months of viewers knowing, Ellie not knowing what to do ending in Toby's death. Of course that should have been the end of it all, but then we had all the stuff with Dan wrongly imprisoned and then after his release Sally and Lisa trying to hound Ellie out of town. By the end you just didn't care any more.
Like I've said before in posts of this nature. I don't believe it is possible for a soap to play out things in real time, not if they want to keep viewers interested. |

Some Hollyoaks storylines do run on and on!!
The whole Serial Killer Storyline took the.... As for Mel's drinking it is okay because they are throwing extra bits like the whole Claire scenerio....but still it is dragging on Becca/Justin it is far boring now...how many more people are gonna know as we have been patient in this storyline. But Jake will be finding out in a short while though. However, I did enjoy the pace of Rhys/Sarah/Kathy as it is fair to say that it hasnt dragged on and it is on storyline that I am enjoying right now. I find it more funny than tragic,...I mean the character of Rhys is just hilarious |
