As the Title says, there is now a remote hack for the Samsung 709 player so no need for a one-for-all remote
to perform this hack:
remove any discs from your 709 and power the player up
press REPEAT on the Samsung remote control
enter the following numbers: 3 8 7 6 7
a number will now be superimposed over the Samsung logo on your TV screen - this number represents the current region setting of the player (e.g. for region 2 you will see 02)
now press the number of the region you would like your 709 to become:
1 = region 1
2 = region 2
9 = region free setting (probably the best unless you've got an RCE region 1 disc)
press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of your 709
press the red DVD POWER button on the Samsung remote
power the player back on and insert a disc of your choice
It looks like this hack works with all firmware versions and the word on the grapevine is that it works for the newest Samsung players (511-811)
HOWEVER, it appears you may be limited in the number of times you can change your region setting - if this occurs, then try resetting your player.
To reset the player:
Before every attempt to hack your 709, you should always reset the player. This wipes the slate clean and returns the player to it's factory settings. If you can't be bothered to reset your player, then don't be surprised if the hack won't work - and certainly don't bother posting a "why can't I hack my 709" message on any forums or newsgroups!
To reset your 709, do the following:
turn your TV so that you can see the signal from your 709
remove any discs from the player and turn the player off (i.e. put it into stand-by mode)
turn the player on and wait until the front panel display says "NO DISC"
press and hold down the PLAY and STOP buttons on the front panel of your 709 (i.e. not the ones on the 709 remote)
keep those PLAY and STOP buttons held down until the "select menu language" menu appears on your TV screen
pick up your 709 remote and choose a language - preferably one you can speak
If you try one of the hacks but it won't work, then always reset your player before trying again
Hope this helps everyone who has a 709
