Just a general question.

I am just wanting to know if anyone has managed to get a handset from the o2 retailer (shops) connected to an online tariff and actually take the handset from the retailers, rather than just allowing them to complete the order online?

No they don't allow it. Offers in-store and online are completely different. However, you are able to purchase on-line SIM Cards at an O2 Retail store.

The whole idea of having an online tariff is to buy it & manage it online, hence the word "online"

Well, for the smart ar$es you ARE allowed to purchase your handset through the o2 retailers (as i mentioned in my orginal post). What is supposed to happen is you are told the handset will be sent in the post.

I am wanting to know if there are any retailers not abiding by this rule.

This question is for research purposes. I am fully aware of the o2 procedures

O2 online sims are the same as o2 offline sims, that is the reason for that

As I mentioned. You are allowed to purchase the o2 online deals in the retailers.

My question being, i want to know if any retailers are allowing the phones to be taken from the retail outlets, rather than just the contract.

I upgraded my handset instore. I have an online tariff but even tho i have been with 02 for years now and after having knocked a tenner per month off my tariff the online upgrade wanted to charge me £60 for a d600. So went instore and got it for free

nice work 02.

I think what people are trying to tell you, despite you insulting them, is that the answer is no.

I have an O2 phone that I got on a manager's special when I was looking for an offer. It was a decent offer.

My girlfriend wanted an O2 online tarrif and when I bought my phone in the store we visited she still had to get hers from the online team and have it delivered, regardless of what we said.

I welcome you to show me where i have insulted anyone! I am sure I would have heard back from the people in question if i had. Comments that have no quotation's for an individual are simply tongue in cheek comments aimed at no particular user, thus the use of the smiley's and no mention of an individual.

The thread has gone off at a tangent. My orginal question was simply to ascertain if any person had managed to get an online deal signed up through a retailer.

The reason i asked this is because I had come across an example and wanted to know if this was indeed wide spread.

As people on this forum are more clued up than joe public about what they are buying then it makes sense to ask such a group of knowlegable people.

Ultimately I am here to help people, not to annoy them. I have never asked any other questions here before and only asked this one to try and feedback something that has been highlighted to me, to try and improve service. I try my best to help others all over the web with anything to do with o2, which is done in my own time.

You read my mind. That's exactly what I think too every time I see this thread which is why I've not replied to it before now to be honest, even though I'm aware of what one of the O2 stores round here does re: connecting to an online deal instore...

One of our o2 stores does it too, but why should I snitch? Surely o2 should have appropriate procedures and safeguards in place to stop this from happening - and not relying on a public forum for answers!

and theres nothing wrong with snitching if he was to do so, retail cause CS no end of problems with all the mis-info they give out, its about time we got one over on them

Nothing wrong with Garyo2 snitching if he wants to improve his work prospects, but maybe he could have said something along the lines of "I will be using information i get here for my own ends rather then for reference purposes"

You're right, Gary probably would make a good TL, as from I see on here he's pretty knowledgeable about O2 network procedures etc. However he did say this thread was "for research purposes" which is a bit disingenuous (?) IMO

As for O2 CS - sorry, but I'm not a fan. All (bar two) of the CS staff i got through to were shocking to me when I was with them. Good luck with the getting one over retail anyway though

Wowee it all happens when I am watching Fifth gear lol.

I just have to first add that what I have asked has nothing to do with o2 as a company (i dont even work for them directly); it is a question I have asked on a personal level.

I have no authorisation from o2 to post on here regarding their policies and procedures, nor would I even consider discussing internal policies or procedures over the internet or any other medium with parties who are not privileged to the information.

I do not expect or require authorisation as this is not part of my job description or function within the company I work for. All my comments have no relation to the client directly, and all views are my own, and no reflection of the company.

Now with the formalities out of the way.

I think it is wise to give the full storey.

I was told by a close friend that certain o2 shops were allowing for some customers to go into the retailer and take out a contract and connect, in store, to o2 online.

I don't expect anyone to snitch. I just wanted confirmation if what I had heard was correct. I don't want to know branches. The information would be of no use to me, as I am only looking for whether people have, or have not been able to do what I have mentioned.

I don't really want to discuss my job over the internet as it isn’t really of any concern to people other than myself. I am not using any information I find out here to aid any career moves. I work in Human Resources and Training so have no intention to become a team leader/manager for o2 direct.

The information would have aided me because it would have meant I could have got the phone I wanted the same day (the day i actually needed it the most). Instead of having to wait. Thus the reason why the orginal question was only for reference.

Only information I was going to feedback to the powers that be was if they could actually confirm the company stance on this practise. I am not Sherlock Holmes

The person who bought the contract got it for the standard price, just with an online version of the tariff, according to my friend.

I was in an o2 shop last week asking about a repair to a phone and he advised me to go to a completely different shop as i would have my phone back in a couple of hours. Brilliant customer service i thought and i will go back to that o2 shop again

A very small proportion of o2 shops actually have a service centre built in, so they can repair the phones on site. Be good if they all had them. I think there are only about 4 though in the whole country.

Ok you work for o2 but its hardly going to affect you personally is it? But business wise you get the info off here another rung up the ladder

I dont work for O2 though (well at least not directly) so the information off here is no real use to me, career wise. Maybe o2 have their own spy's who view the internet, I have no idea.
