Archos AV 700 TV

This gadget looks excellent with its twin Freeview tuners and ability to record directly from the tuners and TV.

A couple of issues. Firstly, the 40gb hard drive is a bit paltry. 60gb would be better.

Secondly, with these new slingbox type devices coming available, why not lob a wireless connection and browser in there (as in the PMA 400) to make it the complete package?

Finally, the AV700 screens look nice, but they make the player so big. A AV500 option would have been good as well.

It does indeed look good. I have the non-TV AV700 and will upgrade to the AV700TV as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Maybe. I have the 100Gb AV700 and I struggle to use even half of that space at (on average) 1Gb per movie. It depends what this model's TV recording definition is. Having said that, I'm sure I would want a 100Gb version if available, even if just for the sake of it.

The unit is only a little bigger than that fantastic screen, although it is hefty. I certainly don't strap it to my arm when out running but I do spend a lot of time in the air or on a train and having a screen that size is the mut's nuts.

Anyone got one yet? Tell all!

Cheers,
A

Pingu has an earlier version I believe, maybe he'll comment on this?

I do - the 40gb non-TV AV700.
Well, I did - I sold it a few months ago. I wasn't really using it.

It's a nice unit, and plays a lot of files very well, but it's let down by its screen. At 7", it needs a higher resolution than 480px across to look any good. I presume the TV version keeps this?
It's also a lot to lug around - it doesn't fit in any pockets, and because the resolution isn't there, the bigger screen size is a bit pointless. It'd be very nice for future versions to have at least a 720px across screen, or even a 1280x720p HD capable one.

I have the AV500, no TV on it of course but a great device to save photos, music and videos on. East to conect up to a TV equipment and a PC.

Would be good if they brought out a TV attachment one day if it was possible.

They have brought out a tv attachment with remote control. I have the AV580 (80gb) and it has a TV docking station. It allows me to plug it into me Sky+ or DVD recorder. If I had Yahoo TV Schedule (which I don't) it would also record from that schedule.
