Eeep! That's what scared me about cybermen! I used to always think you were fine if you were hugging a wall as you could see everything coming at you

That would not ring true at all and be a massive cop-out, for them to move the story forward by weeks or months so we don't have to deal with their loss. I'd be very disappointed if that occurred.

I don't think it will make a lot of difference to be honest. I think it's too late in the day and it was the initial first rush that was missed.
I've been watching the amount of voters in the poll over the week and on one day there was only about 30 voters.

I think the moment has passed really.

I just hope that the future polls are added on time in future.

Oh for f*ck's sake.

The ratings are obviously going to suffer.
Doctor Who should be a set fixture.
Shunting it around is only letting the viewers down, and loses them viewers.
So why on earth do they insist on putting live shows on either before it or after?

6.40pm...this might mean that this particular episode gets the lowest ratings since it's comeback.”

This has happened to my favourite shows, bumped about because the channels can't seem to decide where to set them.... shows get cancelled quite easily because of low ratings, and sometimes I think they do it on purpose -- take an expensive, popular show that they don't wish to bother with anymore, and move it about in the timeslots until the ratings drop, and then cancel it because of low ratings. Saves them embarrasement of admitting they don't wish to deal with the show anymore, helps shield them from a bit of the wrath from the fans, and then they get to cancel the show anyway....

Can anyone remember off-hand which Who episode was shunted because of Eurovision last year? Was it a standalone or the second of a two parter?

Cause I'm wondering if the BBC has done it this way for precisely the opposite reason - as the second of a two parter, it may pull in more viewers than a one-off, because most people who see it this week are gonna want to know the conclusion. If it was a one off, casual viewers are more likely to not bother.

But 'The Girl in the Fireplace' has polled the third lowest amount of votes.
'The End of the World' and 'Aliens of London' are the only two episodes whose polls have less voters responding on them.

And even the percentages have probably been affected, as another poster pointed out, other episodes got an initial boost that was reflected in the poll, which meant that there were a lot of votes for 'excellent' and 'very good'.
'School Reunion' got an initial 60% combination of 'excellent' and 'very good' which levelled off to around 56% as the episode was less fresh in the memory.

'The Girl in the Fireplace' didn't have the luxury of that same initial momentum.

I think that due to the actual number of posts in the thread, and the third lowest amont of actual votes, we can say that many people answered in the thread, but as there was no poll to use, they didn't come back to vote a day or two later because it wasn't fresh in their memory anymore.

May be the day and a half (after broadcast) before the poll was started has something to do with it! Lots of posts on Saturday evening but noone could vote until Monday.

Spoiler

Spoiler
There is an interview on Ceefax with Noel Clarke. Mickey will be in Torchwood - so won't be dying in these episodes.

Spoiler
Noel Clarke (apparently) is writing some of the Torchwood scripts

My understanding, based on a couple of spoilers I couldn't avoid, is that

Spoiler
Parallel universe RICKY dies, and Mickey stays on to take his place

Guess we'll just need to wait and see!

Just read the interview you mentioned on Ceefax..Page 522 for all those interested....and....
Spoiler
Noel only says that he is writing for Torchwood. He doesn't mention appearing in it.

I don't like the sound of that, BG.

I think it's very unfortunate that the poll was as late as it was last week, but there was little that could be done about it as myself and quite a few others sent several requests over Saturday night and most of Sunday until it appeared.

I think it would be better if Slug just made a note on his stats page about the lateness of the poll and left it at that. At least it's all above board then, eh?

I wasn't suggesting that he fiddled the figures or anything..more doing a comparison or finding an average going on comments made.

Don't know if people already knew that, but I didn't really want to know that ahead of the episode.”

Spoiler
I don't think Mickey dies either. Rather, I'm guessing he knows knows that he and Rose are finished and, having become the hero, he elects to stay on the parallel Earth.

Spoilered because although I don't know for certain, snippets I've read so far seem to suggest that is the case and I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Spoiler
After seeing his character develop this series after the poor showing in series one I was hoping we would see him go out in a blaze of glory!

Lol I didn't think your intentions were anything less than honourable, BG.

But going through a thread that size trying to translate comments into a rating would be a nightmare, wouldn't it?

I just worry that any manipulation of the figures would be seen as unfair, that's all - not that they have the same importance as say a Presidential election.

Spoiler
Maybe, as someone suggested upthread, he does come back to help one final time in the finale?

Both DT and BP have said "who knows who comes back?" at the end of the series.

In fact, maybe that IS the case - the real Mickey comes back to help during the finale and is killed, leading to Rose leaving the tardis at Christmas?

This is what I expected the problem to be.
That there is an influx of people who visit the forum after the show to talk about it, then don't really visit the forum again until the next show the following week.
I think there will be a fair few amount of people who use the forum in this way.
