A lot of money to pay for a single tuner box (no watch one, record another). Sony have had something similar out for a while I think.

Sony & Panasonic have/had similar versions.

The Philips is showing at about £320 on other sites and no doubt will fall under £300 eventually.

I ordered and waited for new Pioneer DVR540HX with 160GB include GuidePlus and EPG (Freeview tuner) and it much longer than Philips 7250H as Pioneer 160GB is 455hrs that much longer and cheaper at £320 included free delivery. I already deicded to dumped Philips DVDR9000H as it never release in the future and already ordered for Pioneer... remember Philips DVDR7250h isnt included GuidePlus listing just the EPG for freeview -- Pioneer DVR540HX has both that good one to buy.

Beware of claims of enormous recording hours from the same disc size, these will be at VERY poor bitrates resembling LP on a VCR.

A good quality recording will require 2GB per hour i.e. 80 hours from a 160GB disc and an acceptable one (for me anyway) 1GB per hour i.e. 160 hours from a 160GB HDD

I copied some LP VHS to HD recently and tried it on the EP setting. (8Hrs to a DVD). Not very good at all. At the LP setting (4 Hours) it was fine though. Panny DMREH60D by the way.

If this is the DVDR7250H/31 then it will be:

A. a two tuner model (1 analogue, 1 digital)
B. supporting Guideplus
B. offering AC3 5.1 recording.

Probably none "in stock" because it's not been released in the UK yet.

Yeah. It's not bad.

It's not that straightforward to use, well in comparison to the Sony RDRHXD710 I tried and the LiteOn LVW5045 I owned but it seems ok.

The freeview tuner seems ok picture wise and I'd say better than the Sony's but it's slower. The 5.1 and digital audio recording is good. It's a shame the 2 hr mode isn't too hot as the HQ and SP modes are the only ones that support 5.1.

I'm gonna mess a bit more but I'm tempted to keep it. Need to find a multiregion handset hack now

I guess the video quality is downgraded slightly to account for the extra audio content. What are you recording @ 5.1? Will it take Sky?

Yep it takes 5.1 audio from Sky (had to buy a £12 converter to get it to coaxial though) but if you read the other threads 5.1 recordings only playback on the recorder.
