European Commission push on with plans to regulate roaming

THE European Commission said yesterday that it would push on with plans to regulate “roaming” mobile phone costs, despite a pledge by Vodafone to cut its own charges by 40 per cent.

The Commission welcomed Vodafone’s announcement as a “step in the right direction”, but said that the industry needed to do more.

“There is nothing that would lead the European Commission to give up what it has been pursuing,” a spokesman said.
