Anybody else use MMS yet? I was very annoyed to find that MMS does not as yet work cross network. So if a mate has an MMS compatable handset on say Orange, and i am on T-Mobile, they cannot send them between them :'( They never seem to advertise this

doh, that and it being incredibly expensive (at least on t-mob) are major sticking points.

I dont see why they are advertising it in a big way... i can see how it could be useful/funny, but never on the scale of simple texts. They should work on making texts longer and quicker tbh if they want to sell phones.

MMS will probably end up being just another WAP...

T-mobile work out the cheapest for MMS, if you use it.

an avergage MMS is about 35K, 1 pic. T-Mobile for £20 give you a 10MB quota. That works out around 300 Messages. On Orange is 40p a message, and 40 x 300 would mean that same 300 messages would cost you £120. So that works out £100 more expencive, now which is cheaper?

my point is with t-mob you have to buy in bulk as it were... £20 is more than my line rental anyway, so to pay it on top just for a crappy picture service seems very expensive to me.

Everbody who i know who uses SMS sends more than 1 a day. I Persoanlly send over 500 text messages a month, and others i know are around that too. This month i have sent around 50 MMS's , and once more people get compatable handsets, and the service grows, i will send even more. T-Mobile need a cheap option for the light user, but then again whats the point in having it if you are not going to make use of it?

I remember all these comments being said in the mid 90's about text messages, they would not take off, who would want to send them, but look now, look at how many are sent.....

the picture quality is abysmal also for the cost, well so I am told. The adverts will have you think its a mega pixel camera inside, but the qualities little better than a £40 blink cam from gadget shop!

and where exactly would you plug the £40 blink cam into the phone? If you have an erricson T68i , yes it does look abysmal on THAT SCREEN! Same as a Nokia 3510 does, as thats black and white and the erricson T68i is only 256 Colour. The Nokia 7650 & 7210 look great, and if you want to view the picture on a PC they come out quite good. They are not £500 Digital Camera quality, but they are not cheap and nasty either. MMS is not just about images though, its about audio too. MMS is away of sending pictures, audio, text (and video at a later date) to another handset to show somebody else somthing where you are, or just somthing fun. The phones with camera's are not designed to be instead of the digital camera that is seperate, they are MMS's compatable handsets with inputs! Second of all, its ace, me, and 2 of my mates have Nokia 7650's and we send pictures and audio to each other its fun, and useful....

hang on, you can send *audio* with a phone... omg, technology has moved on

I still dont see mms being more popular than sms, simply cos u can get nice quick messages out with sms. People will always want to send simply "im bored" "what you doing" "yes/no" style messages...

for me, once i've sent a picture of my arse around to everyone, i cant think of *much* use for mms

Yeah, but you can send just text, so you could send 3K text MMS . If you pay £20 for 10MB like me, thats 3333 text messages for £20, which is not bad now is it? work out how much that would cost you as SMS. It will take off, it just needs time.

Japanese mobile phone companies make a third of their income from MMS. So there is potential for it to take off.

The Japanese love their gadgets though so we'll just have to wait and see.

Have you got hold of a 7210 then? Whats it like? Do you know when it will finally be released?

No, they will be out in October on T-Mobile. It will be £299.99 on Pay as you go, or £149.99 as a new contract. Expect a contract upgrade to be about £10 more expencive then a new contract.

I hope to get my hands on one soon, but i just love my 7650 at the moment, just gone and got loads of new games and apps for it, even got a Zip program on my phone!

Hmmm oddily today I looked at the Phones4U website and they have a GIF with it on, stating the price as you just said of 149.99. But the GIF is not a link and it isnt anywhere else so guessing they have just jumped the gun! I thought normally new phones were always available first on O2/Vodafone?

Thinking about it you are in Stoke, you work for Caudwell in anyway?

No i do not work for Caudwell. Nasty company. Since One2One changed to T-Mobile, they said they were going to increase the range, and the 7650 came out on T-Mobile first, so i expect more to. So the O2 / Voda thing is no longer valid. If you on Voda you need your head checking anyway

The best thing to do, is to phone your networks customer services. Thats how i got the info on the 7210 on T-Mobile. If you try and get it through the network direct, and threaten to leave, they sometimes offer you the phone cheaper

I was considering that tactic... had my one2one phone on contract for nearly 6 years now, and when i enquired about changing phones in one of their shops, he quoted me a rediculous price... much more than a new contract!

I wouldnt mind being on o2, but my friends seem to have loads of sms probs with them every now and again.

Might wait for the 7210 one... that doesnt have a camera tho does it?

But you have to take a look at Japan where they use all these aps and more... All there phones are larger than ours due to the screen that is used.

The size is almost the same as a 3210, remember those? You have all been spolit with phones getting as small as 8210's or even smaller, now that they want to do somthing with mobiles that requires a decent screen, they have to take the size back 2 years, and we scream!

thats the thing, i *dont* want all this fm radio, mms picture taking, huge colour screen crap stuffed into my phones... everyone just assumes we do! thats why we're horrified by the size. the 3210 is a monstrosity by todays phones, yet we're going back there just to have a load of features not everyone wants!

I want a cute small futuristic "feature less" phone... any suggestions?
