The Radio 1 Big Weekend may be fun for the 30,000 attending but for the residents surrounding the park its hell. I live across the road and can see into the park, it's only friday night but my house is vibrating already and we can't hear music or the television over the thumping bass noise. I'm angry as I have to put up with it all this weekend and Radio 1 do not care if anyone has to put up with the noise pollution plus we will have a pile up of cars outside my house all weekend as well as constant noise from people going past on top of the music. It's a big nightmare. I emailed Radio 1 to complain. We should have been offered tickets as compensation not that I want to go to this shambles of an event and I'm 19 year old student, I can't afford to even go to an event in town as the tickets are ridiculous prices! Maybe this is just One Big moan but try putting up with it; if i want peace i have to go to my friends house, great...

I've got to say, it's only 2 days noise! Plus it's "okay" noise - music, rather than domestic arguments as I have had to put up with.

Spare a thought for some who have had noisy neighbours for years - I have had a couple downstairs who constantly have had domestics and the police are called out pretty much every few days for the past year.

There's a number off the police website that you can call if you want to complain about the noise - 01382 624039.

From http://www.tayside.police.uk/radio1_1.php

Radio One has established a hotline for any residents who have enquiries concerning music levels and noise. All complaints will be investigated by acoustic consultants to ensure that disturbance from noise is kept to a minimum and that agreed conditions are met. Residents should not phone Tayside Police with noise complaints relating to the event. The hotline number to call is Dundee (01382) 624039.

Other than the sound checks which now I think were done for measuring out the sound level for round about I ave no complaints what so ever about the event as I have not been able to hear a thing.
I'm the mother of the student that wrote in the post oe big nightmare. I think really my daughter was so diappointed her and her sister never got tickets that she had to pick up on a sound check on Friday night that didn't ast for very long and it never happened again.
I do feel though that the ticket thing was a real fiasco though and so many people in Dundee didn't get tckets. As far as I can gather very few here got tickets.
Believe you me I get more noise from my neighbours inside the house and outside than I have got from tis event of Radio 1's.

Its really rubbish they didn't dish out tickets locally because last year my mate went to Sunderland to queue there and never got any - this year they weren't giving them out locally - think its a bit unfair from our point of view however can understand its probably the fairest way of dispensing tickets.

It's not like you can hear the music, just noise you know bass and drums. Not very nice.
I like it when my neighbours have arguments, it's like the Jeremy Kyle show.

I take it everyone understands the true purpose of the Big Weekend?

The BBC target areas where commercial radio gets far more listeners than the BBC national stations. Tay FM (the modern music local station) averages more listeners than all competitors COMBINED. The same goes for Tay AM (a bit like Radio 2).

Last year, they were in Sunderland where the most listened to station is Sun FM. Next year, they will target yet another area where BBC national radio is seldom listened to.

In a nutshell, it's one huge, noisy and expensive (£250,000 of licence-fee payers' money) publicity stunt.
