Component Connection Problems - help
loxley
13-05-2006
Hi
I have recently got a Toppy and have it connected from the scart TV out of the Toppy into the YUV component sockets of my LCD tv, as well as seperate phone leads for the audio.

However, when I try and select this input on the TV all i'm getting is the audio from the Toppy, with no picture.

I have tried changing the Toppy settings to both YUV and RGB output but still nothing.

The connection sockets are the correct colour.

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks!

What lead are you using, I've never seen a scart to component cable

Scart > Component leads are uni-directional. Make sure you have not used a Component > Scart lead, 'Cos if you have you'll see nothing on your screen.

Here is one; I use it to connect a Toppy to a LCD Monitor.

By the way chaps the OP sorted his problem with some help from Nigel over on the other place.

rhubarbe do you know if a component to scart cable exists. Someone said the other day that all these cables would be scart to component because there is no equipment that receives component through a scart anyway so no one would make the cable that way round. (or words to that effect)
Just ask because this directionality question comes up every so often.

My apologies, I'd never seen one before

Good point Richard. OTTOMH, I have seen dsub VGA (configured for component) to scart for a thingy called a TVisto, but I'll see what I can find when I have done listing my spare satellite receivers on eBay later (5p listing day).

@Richard46

My Acer LCD TV receives component video through one of its two scart sockets. Obviously, Acer was aware that this is unusual, as they supplied a cable with the TV which works OK with my E55 DVD recorder.

Problem is the cable is not high quality, as well as being too long, but I've been unable to find a better cable anywhere, probably due to the low potential market for such a cable.

I guess some of the cable specialists would be able to provide a bespoke cable, but that's likely to be costly. In the meantime I'll keep looking.

Isn't this one of good enough quality?

http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/PGV372.html

OK, it's 1.5m which would be too long for me, but the quality lookd reasonable.

rhubarbe; Possible trouble with that is that it appears to be the same cable as this Scart to Component cable. (same number PGV372).

http://www.futureshop.co.uk/profigol...15m-p-297.html

I know this does scart to component because this is the one I use to output my Toppy Scart to my LCD.

Either they are not directional (is that possible without a switch) or the description in your link has it the wrong way round.

Richard

Edit; or they are actually different cables despite similarity

I expect it's a mistake. the section is entitled scart to component but the cable is described as component to scart. All very odd.

Yep; most likely explanation; which of course means will probably not solve ceejbee's problem.

Well here's the info from the Profilgold web site and they say it's component to scart.

http://www.profigoldcables.co.uk/cat...products_id=53

Apparently they are made for Loewe TVs that do receive component via scart.

Thanks rhubarbe & Richard for your help.

I had already looked at this cable, but was still confused about the direction of signal. The comment about Loewe TVs seems to confirm it should do the job.
