Lol yep I did say nearly all covers, wondering when a proper Mariah fan would come along and point out that I'm not quite right...took a longtime...which suggests to me most people who have posted on here are just casual fans of Mariah's.

Firstly, i hadn't seen you're reply until today so i couldn't correct you

Secondly, what do you think depicts a true fan, compared to a casual fan?

I'm not having a go at you, just wodering what you think

I have loved this woman's music for 13 years and as the time has gone on i have become even more of fan. Her lyrics have gotten me through some of the worst times in my life and while i may not know every single song's writing credits, i do know how she makes me feel and that makes me just as much of a fan as someone who can quote sales figures and writing credits IMO

To me a casual fan of a big music artist such as Mariah...is someone who probably only has their latest album and a couple of other albums....and yes I agree you don't have to care about album sales and other things to be a BIG fan of an artist but usually I find most people are very knowledgable about that sort of thing when it comes to their fave band or singer (s)...

Although

A true fan of Mariah is someone who owns all her albums (plus a few singles and BOTH her DVDs) and knows that she has done 1 cover on every album since "Emotions"...with exception to Glitters OST which features 2 covers....and other things 'like who she was married to in the 90s for four years', 'how many jobs she had before getting her 1st record deal'...in other words not just love/know her music but her too.

Hope I explained it well..lol

But Mariah has writting credits on all the songs on 'The Emancipation of Mimi' - unless there was a cover on the re-release, in which case I couldn't know about because I just downloaded the extra songs, rather than buy the whole album again.

But 17 in the US, the most for any female artist and only behind The Beatles, who have the most.

I don't know why though - it's a great song and I think she sings it well.

Im going to get slated here but i really dont like her!

She warbles too much either showing off or because she cant hold a note.

I appreciate that im in the minority so im sorry. I only accessed this thread to see if anyone shared my opinion. Obviously not! Oh well each to their own, we like what we like.

Its not what it was, but alot of it is to do with age. Voices change with age as she was very young when she started out. Her voice is more mature not.

She still reaches all the notes, if you listen to songs like Sprung then thats very classic mariah (not the tune but the voice) Glitter was also an album that i would rate as classic mariah.. Her voice was amazing on songs like "lead the way, Dont stop funkin" Etc.

I still love Mariah. Emancipation of Mimi was the return of the voice. I just hope her next album is just as good.

My Issue with Mariah Carey is that, although she has an amazing voice, she feels the need to use every octave in every song. I think the reason her first few albums may be seen as better is because her voice was more pure and sustained, meaning that when she hit a note she held it instead of doing that sliding scale thing she loves to do so much now.

When I listen to her i just feel like shouting at her "pick a note and go with it" We all know she has something absurd like a 50 octave voice (Sarcasm BTW) but does she have to use them all in the space of a 3 minute song?
