Hi,

Hope someone can answer this for me.

I am the proud owner of a Panasonic DVD recorder and I managed to get the guy at Dixons to throw in a pack of discs as a sweetener. The problem is he has given me a pack of 5 (Philips branded) DVD+RW discs and the Panasonic manual says they must have the DVD-RAM logo.

I questioned the salesman several times about this (cos as far as I know THEY ARE DIFFERENT) and he even asked another salesman and he confirmed that they are OK - BUT I AM NOT CONVINCED.

Both type of discs (2 came in the box with the recorder - 1 cartridge type and 1 non-cartridge as you can use both - just says cartridge ones last better)) are 4.7Gb / Single sided but the Philips ones state they are DVD+RW recorder and PC DVD+RW drive compatible only.

Before I stick one in and ruin my new baby, can anyone tell me for sure WILL THEY BE OK OR NOT, even if they need reformatting.

Thanks All

Ade.

No, they're not OK, they're completely wrong for your machine and they can't be re-formatted.

Take them back and tell the salesman he's a moron.

The words 'product knowledge' and 'Dixons' should never be used together.

Print this forum out and show them, also I would ask for either the correct discs, or a £35 refund/gift certificates.

If they say no, just tell them that you don't mind writing to head office and pointing out that they dont know the difference between +RW and -RW. They'll only be too please to help - If this doesn't work, ask for the manager and point out that their sales staff are not trained to sell DVD recorders.

If I were you, I would be very polite and just tell them that you respect their advice but they were so so so wrong.

What a performance!!!!!!!!!

They had not got a clue. Eventually I got them to bring an assortment of discs down from their stockroom and I selected a pack of DVD -R discs of the same value (I have got a lot of stuff that I want to permanently transfer to DVD) so I am now a happy man.

At least I still got my sweetener... but anyone else who decides to shop at Dixons BEWARE THE INEXPERIENCED SALESPERSON

DrChris - you're right again.

Sometimes, you can take advantage of this lack of knowledge though!
