Releasing music videos

I'm about to suggest something I feel is long overdue with record companies. They shuold release singles with their respecive music videos. By this I don't mean those crappy quick time files you get with most CD signles these days, I mean proper full screen videos released on DVD and VHS alongside the CD and MC releases. I feel we should be able to buy proper music videos from the shops (I know sometimes record labels release videos, you can usually find them in HMV, but most don't) rather than wait to see them on music channels, and even then you might not get the full thing, and you have DOGs slapped accross them or watch a rubbish quick time video on your computer screen. I don't see why this isn't done already. I thinkt hat these "Now" compilations could also release DVD/VHS versions with music videos on. What does everybody else think?

Thats a damn good idea mate, really good, and something I never thought of. But the same thing will happen as is happening with singles, people would just download them, as broadband grows. Downloading music vids is the latest craze on Kazaa, in fact I have loads of them on my hdd.

I think its happening but slowly. A few albums are being re-released with an extra DVD disc. And the next Kylie single release will have a DVD disc alongside CD and Tape. NOW tried releasing a compilation of music videos on DVD but i dont think it charted very well http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...379914-4763850

I think it would be a good idea to have more DVD music videos. Being music channel-less its annoying not to see the videos.

I think this is a planned use for the fledgeling SACD format. It stands for Super Audio CD but I'm not too sure what the point of it is. DVDBoxoffice have a few of them for sale, and I think it is just like a music CD on a DVD.

Glad to see it is hapenning. I'd rather be able to watch the music video proeprly on my TV, rather than off a music channel, and not as a Quick time file on a CD single or an MPEG file from Kazaa to watch via my computer.

Sorry James, I've just done my research properly and I think I must have mis-interpreted something I read before. This page has some information about the SACD format, but it seems that videos aren't going to be included after all

The SACD format might not include vidoes, but I can see videos being released with singles sometime in the future- as has been said some singles do have DVD's alongside the CD and MC.

Following up on this, I today bought Robbie Williams' new single on DVD. Not much really though. Basically it has the video in anamorphic widescreen (one of the few music videos actually made this way. Not shown that way by any music channels thouh, EMAP show it 16:9, MTV show it 14:9) and also, unlike the music channels it's "exclusively" in colour (though I won't be suprised to see the colour version on MTV in a few weeks time), though I can see why the director chose to have it in B&W, it looks much better that way.

Also, the NOW DVD 2003 came out on Monday(http://www.woolworths.co.uk/common/p...l?pid=20189945), I'm going to have a look at that.
