Doctor Who Filming

I've heard rumors that filming on the next season might not start till 2007, and possibly as late as the middle of 2007, has anyone else heard this? Is there any truth to it? Surely the BBC wouldn't let their biggest show go off the air for nearly 2 years.

Oh I don't know, they did before afterall

Not heard anything about this.

If true the only reason I could guess for it (apart from BP or DT not being available till then) is that they've decided to put DW back into the Autumn/Winter schedule.

Which would be a good idea and it would be worth the wait.
As an added bonus we may be treated to some consistently good scripts, and a good replacement could be found for Rose. There would be plenty of time to tackle both these issues.

And also for everyone to enjoy Torchwood. After all the hype of the show's return, DT's debut etc. I don't see any harm in letting things quieten down a little bit before series 3. If anything is going to let the show down at the moment it's overkill.

That is certainly one of my concerns. The first series was repeated a ridiculous amount of times on the various BBC channels, not to mention UKTV.

I heard that the bbc are expecting big things of their new Robin Hood, which although not sci-fi is slated for a similair early Saturday evening, family audience type show. Maybe they're expecting this to fill the Dr Who gap for a bit...?

From a production point of view RTD is a very busy bunny these days what with the over-seeing of Torchwood as well as DW. I was a little concerned that the quality of DW Series 3 might suffer as a consequence.
However, I wouldn't mind if they postpone Series 3 until Autumn 2007 if it maintains the high standard we expect.
Anyway, there's supposed to be a Christmas special again this year, isn't there?

Yes, a Christmas special for this year and next.

Although it would be a long wait, I have no objection to DW being moved to the autumn - for one thing, the dark evenings all add to the atmosphere of watching the programme - particularly when we get a good, old fashioned frightener such as The Unquiet Dead.

Obviously moving the series to the autumn would improve the ratings as well, as audiences are generally higher then than in the spring/summer.

There was also some rumours flying around OG that we may get an extra couple of episodes in series three if they pushed it back to the autumn - in addition to the Christmas special. If that was to happen, it would be the icing on the cake for me.

Is that right Den? I thought it had been commissioned for only two Christmas specials in total...

Yup, currently nothing commisioned beyond next season's finale. TCI was part of this season, and this year's Christmas special is part of the next.

It makes sense though. You might've heard it wrong. It makes sense if they actually air Dr Who in the Soring next year, but filming?

I thought cameras were due to start rolling again July for the Christmas special and then straight into the next run...with the possibility of extra episodes which may mean a delay to screening it in the Autumn instead. We have waited 18 months before for a new season so as difficult as it would be I'd rather see it back where it belongs on those cold, winter nights.

Didn't they commissioned a third Christmas special when they commissioned series three?

I'm sure they did.

They commisioned the second Christmas special, as part of the 3rd season.

I really don't know Den. I was under the impression that they commissioned two Christmas specials and series 3

From the current DWM they've got more scripts than they need for the next season, so don't assume that the next season is going to be any longer.

Indeed I believe they've over-commissioned so as to have the best choice and mix across the series - it doesn't mean the budget would stretch to extra programmes.
