How can they make it better

My suggestions

1) No "celebrity" actors
2) RTD to produce only - and keep his paws off scripts
3) Less in jokes whose only purpose is to annoy/please the fanbase

Why wouldn't they?

Yes, it's already been picked up for a 3rd season. Wouldn't surprise me if a 4th is confirmed before this one finishes.

That ticks the boxes for me.
A few additions of my own:

4) No Rose Tyler
5) No Jackie or Pete
6) No Powell Estate
7) No more Cardiff.
8) Bring back the Master, but done well of course.

What do you mean by No more Cardiff? No more stories set in Cardiff or no more filming done in Cardiff.

I believe he's down to do at least 4 scripts in Series 3, they are commisiioning more scripts than they need though so maybe some of RTDs won't be used.

While I do admit that my least favourite stories probably are written by RTD if he can produce more on the level of Tooth and Claw I really don't have a problem with him continuing writing for the show.

I do agree that we need to get away from London 2007 a bit more. If Rose is still around for Series 3, one visit to see her mother in Series 3 will be more than enough

I mean set in Cardiff and filmed in Cardiff pretending to be London etc.

As for Rose visiting her mum in series 3, I would put it stronger than that, once would be too much.
RTD not writing would have been my number 1. So far he has only written a few stories that I have liked, usually his are by far the worst.

Why, looking at the reviews of BOFC people were saying that they couldn't see RLP as Lumic becasue of OFAH - and as for Geordie Terrorists...

Anyhow one other to add - no deus ex machina solutions, otherwise just consign DW to fantasy stuff like Charmed

I guess I was lucky in the I never saw RLP as Trigger, so it never bothered me.

Some of the guest stars have been great - Richard Wilson, Simon Callow and Pauline Collins to name but three. I'm not so fond of stunt-casting, though; bring in names to fit the part, not please the tabloids.

I agree about bringing back the Master - let's have someone with real presence to portray him seriously, rather than someone who will play him as a pantomime villain. And let's explore the motivations behind the character - what makes him tick and how he became evil (as BG said, maybe it was something the Doctor caused?) rather than just have him wanting to take over the universe each time, which gets a bit dull done week on week.

Dublin is as far from Cardiff as London is, possible alternative location?

Autumn/Winter UK screening is better. if the 3 month filming break is removed, then 20 episodes is possible, which is close to the 22 standard in the US.

Tony Head would've been perfect but he's already been used.

He could have been the Master, but chose not to reveal himself. He did say he preferred human form, and the Krillitane oil didn't seem to have as much of an effect on him as it did the rest of his brothers.

I agree with you to a point on that. I would love to see a bit of what makes him tick, but I would never want it all explained. I think the American shows tend to over explain things, that is something I would not like to see in Dr Who.
The Master should always have an air of mystery to him I think. The minute we understand everything about him is the minute he stops being a threat. His unpredictability is what makes him so dangerous in the same way that the Doctor's unpredictability makes him so good.

I wouldn't say that all of those you mention have been 'great'.
I think some have varied from good to very good, but I wouldn't have said many, if any at all, have been great.

Annette Badland and Anthony Head were probably the two who I thought were the best guest actors.
And I'd agree with you that Simon Callow and Richard Wilson were pretty good too.

I thought Pauline Collins was competent, but miscast.

Penelope Wilton, hammy.

And I thought Roger Lloyd Pack produced the most diabolical performance out of the entire two series.

Still not as bad as Nicholas Parsons as a vicar, probably the worst example of stunt casting in DW's history.

Just to show that that this sort of discussion is nothing new, at the start of the 70s (I don't remember personally, I'd only just been born, but remember reading somewhere that...) there was apparently talk about the goofy bloke from The Navy Lark, the one with the big nose, getting the role of Doctor Who...

Trouble with that is that in the past time lords seem to recognise one another even after regneration, in The Five Doctors dr#3, Jon Pertwee, recognized the Master even tho
1). he'd never met that version, and 2) the Master's soul was not in his original body or that of another gallifrainian time lord but that of a Traken and non time lord.

So if the producers are sticking to cannon on this issue then logically the 10th Doctor would have had at least a feeling of the Masters presence.

Why Dublin? They film a lot in Cardiff because the show is made by BBC Wales and Cardiff is where the production crew is based. Filming a huge amount of stuff anywhere else would be cost prohibitive.

I agree it would be nice to see DW in the Autumn/Winter but pushing it up to 20 episodes would guarantee a very quick turnaround of Doctors as quality actors like David Tennant wouldn't want to be tied to the series virtually 12 months of a year.

It would be nice to film more around Wales rather than just South Wales. We have lovely sandy beaches up here which could be used for some alien location or something. I am not saying that North Wales belongs in outer space, but you know what I mean They need to have it more out of the cities and Earth based areas.

Edit: I forgot this. STOP with all the spoilers and saying Cybermen will be in this episode and that. Don't tell people what there will be in the next episode.

What an intelligent well formed argument. With such a command over the English language along with your obvious witty sense of humour you could write for Coronation street.

Mind you a name like 'Corrie Kev' is a bit of a giveaway to the level of intelligence.
