5 ways to improve this drivel:

1. Bring back the 4 parters.
2. Send them to strange planets
3. Stop trying to be clever and making it too complicated
4. Axe Rose and her family
5. Bring back Terance Dicks and Philip Hinchcliffe who know how to write decent plots.
6. Cut the loud incidental music

Basically the only way to improve it is make it like it used to be back in the 70s.

I think some have varied from good to very good, but I wouldn't have said many, if any at all, have been great.

Annette Badland and Anthony Head were probably the two who I thought were the best guest actors.
And I'd agree with you that Simon Callow and Richard Wilson were pretty good too.

I thought Pauline Collins was competent, but miscast.

Penelope Wilton, hammy.

And I thought Roger Lloyd Pack produced the most diabolical performance out of the entire two series.”

We shall have to agree to disagree on that one, AM.

Noooooo! Not Penelope Wilton!!! The transition of that character just didn't fit for me. Bumbling incompetent to Prime Minister? Oh... see what you mean...

Not seen Annette Badland in anything else, and due to this role as Slitheen, I hope never to see her in anything else!

Richard Wilson's fit like a glove for some strange reason - considering his role as "Meldrew", I'm surprised he didn't have the same effect on me as Roger Lloyd Pack and "Trigger". Guess RW's role was a little more subtle. Or "Trigger" is just a funnier character!

Felt Pauline Collins probably deserved better than all that Scooby-style running around. Seen better Queen Vic portrayals on 2D-TV...

Simon Callow was perfectly cast.

Anthony Head was majorly miscast IMO. I half expect they (and we) underestimated the guy and are kicking themselves for actually wasting his talents on the Grange Hill episode. Never been a big fan of bringing The Master back, but if it had've been AH playing him, I think they certainly would've been electrifying episodes and well worth waiting for! Guess there's no chance of that now!? Still, AH... there's always Bond...

I watched series 1 again, and Penelope Wilton does some extreme 'mugging'.
I think a lot of people like the character, but I think the like of the character can get mixed up with the perception of the acting.

And I think it's likewise with Annette Badland, people tend to not like the treatment of the Slitheen, but I thought Annette Badland showed off some decent skills in her acting ability, which were even more evident in 'Boomtown'.

And I thought Anhtony Head produced an interesting performance. Some really good 'different' bits that people might not have noticed such as the way he sometimes moved in an 'alien' way when his Krillitane side showed through.
I don't see how him playing Finch prevents him from coming back as the Master. The writers can write it so that it makes sense if they want to.

I agree with you about the others.
