What do you think the best band ever is? Mine would probably be Nickelback (Not for How You Remind Me but for Never Again.

hmmm...impossible to answer really. The most successfull in terms of record sales so far are The Beatles.
My favourite bands (one of these has been my fav at one time or another) The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Status Quo, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Blondie. Currently its probably Oasis.

Difficult Question.

If you went for sales, it would be somebody like The Beatles, or Michael Jackson (not a band I know)

If it went for popularity, I'd say Bee Gees, or most likely Queen.

Personally, I'd say Barenaked Ladies. Oh, and my 'band'.

I like that many bands Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Queen, Iron Maiden and a few others. So that's a hard question for me.

Wasn't their a thread around a short while ago covering this? I seem to remember arguing the case for the Jam and REM not so long ago.
Anyway don't you think Nickelback have to be around for a little while longer before they can be even considered for "best band ever" especially when you seem to putting their name forward on the basis that you like one song?????????

Too many to pick just one. Oasis, Foo Fighters, Queen, Beatles, Charlatans, Travis etc etc.

And yes this thread has been done before. Many times infact. I started one i think.

There really is only one answer to that question - Red Hot Chili Peppers, as I said in many a previous thread on numerous boards.

Their early stuff wasn't that awe-inspiring, but every album they release they just keep getting better and better. Strangely, the next single from By The Way is The Zephyr Song, possibly the weakest song on the album.

I'd have to say the Beatles because they were one of the most prolific songwriting bands ever. They wrote more than 200 great songs and that's hard to beat. Also, they were active in many issues outside music and they seem to have caused an effect on a generation.

Yes..this is true. The Beatles had such an effect on pop culture in the sixties. I was 11 years old in 1963 ,and have never known a group to have such an effect on the mass conciousness as they did at the time, never ever seen anything like it since.

Also, my Granddad heard them in Italy when he was about 14 or 15 and came here to experience the culture. He met my Grandma and that eventually led to me being born. See what a great effect the Beatles had on the world.

Ride! (R.I.P 1989-1996) www.rideox4.co.uk

Oxfordshire 90s indie gods aside Stone Roses, REM, Nirvana, Happy Mondays and U2 are the best bands with Bowie as best solo artist? Monkees, Culture Club and Spice Girls as best pop acts.

Has to be (in no particular order): No Doubt/Marilyn Manson/Radiohead/Nirvana/Queen.

It looks like Queen have the most votes so far. Unfortunately I never go to see them live.

Lynyrd Skynyrd for me are the best band.

I had the pleasure of seeing them live in the royal concert hall in Glasgow a good few years back when me and a few mates met Johnny Van Zant (the original singers brother) and Billy Powell ,still playing the piano to this day.

What a memorable night

I can't narrow it down to one band.

1) U2
2) The Who
