Is this effect only visible on Freeview or is it online and on Sky too?

Maybe the freeview channel they're using is very compressed.

Maybe the visible interlacing is something to do with the lighting in this year's house. It's got to be a lot brighter with all that glass in there.

I had a hunch about this actually.

A couple of months ago Sky Movies 9 and 10 launched and these, though not, high definition, were being sourced from HD and will be simulcasted with the same content in HD for subscribers to Sky HD being installed now.

There was a small quality increase to the SD channels sourced from HD and it looked rather like the effect being seen on BB7 now.

BBC are planning on giving over airspace to other broadcasters like ITV and C4 on their recently launched HD service to allow them to carry out tests.

Now seeing as BB7 has had the biggest technological leap in terms of broadcast quality with widescreen, is it possible that they have modified the cameras to suit both widescreen and HD?.

They could even have the final in HD as a test and next year go fully HD.
It's just a thought.

I certainly hope so, it looks like they might have kitted out the house in advance so that they are ready for next year when HD will be more commonplace.

I would have thought they are just taking a 16:9 frame from a 4:3 source.

It would cost a lot to replace all the cameras in the studio/house, and wasnt there talks about moving to a new location after this series - this would make it even worse as far as cost is concerned.

I think they plan on staying put actually.
I do think it is true 16:9.

I have only noticed the blurring when the night cameras have been on in the bedroom and when someone opens the door and lets some light in. I assumed it was the night camera adjusting to the light and needing to sort itself out.
