Moving from BT to TalkTalk

I have had a dire day.My phone service was to be moved from BT to Talk Talk today.I was assured that I would have all the services that I had with BT.
I no longer have 1571,it will take 5 days for it to be installed,their friends & family package when I tried to install #,s,a computerised message said that it was not a Talk Talk #.I rang T.T customer services it took forever & an age to get through,they were not interested that I haven't got 1571 saying that a staff member must have forgotten to type in the order..Compensation is £5.I was also told at the point of sale that I would be able to have one mobile# that would be able to ring our landline free of charge.
I have placed an order to go back to BT.Also I have had to go & buy an answer machine.
As the saying goes referring to Talk Talk,you get what you pay for.
I just wondered if anyone else had experienced these problems?

If you do a forum search for talktalk, the postings go back to Dec. 2004.
They mostly say the same sort of thing.
It just goes to show, it's worth coming to DS and doing a quick search before signing up to anything.

Thanks JasonW & Vanyablue,I have only just noticed that DS had these topics.I now use them a lot. I bought on impulse when someone turned up on my door.I was like Vicky Pollard & wasn't going to go with Talk Talk but then I thought might as well. The good thing is that I have cancelled my d/debit & I will not pay them in any circumstances.I tried to set up their equivalent of friends & family & the system said that my # wasn't a Talk Talk phone #. My husband is a credit controller & has dealt with the small claims court,for the money that my husband's potential loss of earnings by T/T's incompetence with not having 1571 when ordered & having to go & buy an answer machine today they can go & foxtrot oscar.
The good news being, now that I'm returning to B.T,I am to get £5 off my line rental for 6 months & a reduction in mobile call costs for 3 months which I was paying for before.
Fortunately I had signed up for B.T's broadband which Talk Talk could not touch.

Been there. Tried nearly all of them. Most of them are truly awful for customer service etc.

I'm sticking with BT Together Option 3. You get mobile saver free with that too.

Sure - get cheaper gas and electric elsewhere as gas is gas and leccy is leccy.... but don't compromise with your phone service.

BT all the way!

No need to, I think everyone knows how bad TalkTalk are.

I've never had any problems with 18866, 1899 or 18185 when I was with them, other than once, but at least as they are indirect carriers, if there is a problem you just don't route the call via them. Well I'm still with them, but as I have dumped the landline, rarely need to use them over my VoIP service.

Friends and family have so far had no problems with Primus on the free option 2.

Ive been with talktalk line rental/phone for nearly a year and so have 3 other members of my family and we haven't had 1 single problem apart from the junk mail and phone calls we get from bt begging us to come back

The phone service was never a problem when we were with them, but then we were wise enough not to transfer line rental across to them too, as that isn't wise, for several reasons.

It was TalkTalks broadband that was the problem, so after 2.5 months we dumped the broadband, kept the calls with them until we dumped the landline altogether and went VoIP when we switched broadband to Telewest.

For you perhaps.

OTOH, it costs your callers their provider's minimum call charge if you're on the phone (not just when you're out).

Get a cheap answering machine (e.g. one of THESE - I got one for less than £10 [delivered] from ebay) so they get the engaged tone instead. Keep a few friends!

Here's our tale of woe with Talk Talk. Approx 2 months ago we switched from BT to Talk Talk. They've messed up the whole billing process and they owe us money ( approx £21 in total). Trying to get hold of their customer services is impossible and the only dept that has manned phones are surprise surprise, the sales dept. We've sent emails and all we get are standard replies telling you nothing. As a result we've switched back to BT and have figured that the extra £7 per month is worth it as we've never had problems with BT.

IF YOU'RE THINKING OF SWITCHING DO NOT USE TALK TALK.

I should have looked at this forum before as it seems there are plenty of others who've also had problems. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys and that my friends sums up Talk Talk.

Im to get BT broadband Talk this week and I will get evening and weekend landline calls for free up to an hour per call. Im never on phone an hour lucky if im on 10 or 15mins but I have seem mum on phone for 30mins once or twice. Im also on the friends and family with my normal BT phone and option 1. Im on option 2 for my BT Broadband. Only other service I have tried for phone calls was Tiscali Talk(Use to be Tiscali Smart Talk). They was ok but was glad to get rid of them at the end of last year. I also got rid of Tiscali dial up in Feb and I got everything with BT now. BT may seem a little dear and I have in past moaned about BT prices but they are one of the few better services.

I don't undertsand why you don't consider the idea of keeping you line rental with BT and getting free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls thereon by using Primus Saver Option 2 (CPS).

How about giving 1899 a try then? Whereas BT charge you 3p per minute for a weekday UK 01/02 call, using the 1899 prefix will reduce that to 3p per call - for a call of any duration.

That's BT's key market - Inertia Marketing..... they just sit there hoping that people are too scared to move away from friendly old BT.

I just saved £250 on my car insurance - that was worth searching for...

To save two or three quid on my phone service - can't be arsed with that. Still not convinced.

Two or Three quid?

If you use the phone a lot it can be much much much more than just 2 or 3 quid.

The two or 3 quid saving yes, if you are just going to move from BT to TalkTalk, but using sense you can switch and save £150+ per year.
