I used to be a big fan but I think it's been a mistake to carry on the series without Hector, just as it was a mistake to try and do Ballykissangel without the (original) priest and the barmaid. Some of the old episodes with Hector were hilarious - I remember the one with the vintage barrel of whisky in particular. But now the series centres largely on Archie. Trouble is, not only is Archie not the sharpest tool in the box, he is also DULL, so incredibly DULL. The character is one-dimensional - all he ever does is offend various other characters by doing things without consulting them. If I'm wrong, tell me what else he does.
The BBC have always come up with brilliant drama series. But sadly they also have a history of keeping them going beyond their sell-by date. |
