i was shocked to discover that in HMV the 1st series of dr who with Christopher Ecelston costs £15.99, in music zone it only costs £7 and it can be brought even cheaper on the net from places like Ebay. it costs even more than the 1st volume of series 2

What HMV is this?!

We're surely not talking about the whole series?

This one? I fail to see the £7 price tag. You sure you didn't miss the "0.00" from the end?

No, the "vanilla" releases of the first series are around £15.99 for each of the four volumes. Each volume had three episodes and no extras.

The complete series (which has all the added and bonus material) is £70 from the same site.

Of course you can buy them cheaper elsewhere, but HMV will charge whatever people will are prepared to pay. If people can't be bothered to shop around and pay less, too bad.

But if I have got this completely wrong, and you can get the entire first series for seven quid, please tell me where!

For considerably less with blank DVDs, DVD recorder and a TARDIS to travel back and record it all. Although I am sure someone will dig it up soon to repeat it, so why not get it then?

If only there was a publicly funded digital channel that repeated the last series on a regular basis...

Bound to crop up on BBC 3 or 4 in those cold winter months.

My point exactly as, I suspect, was yours originally.

More likely BBC3, not quite high-brow enough for 4, unless it's part of a "How great was 2005?" strand.
