New DVD recorder -help with connections
I have today bought a Panasonic DVD HDD recorder(EH50), my first such machine.
I would prefer to keep my VHS machine in my set up for a few months while we all get used to the new DVD and for transferring tapes to DVD. Please can anyone offer advice on the various connections I should ideally make for the best reception/ utilisation of the following items in my new set up TV( 2X RGB scarts) Digibox( 2x RGB scarts) VCR ( 2 scarts) DVDR ( 2 X RGB SCARTS) Thanks |

Nearly ok - but freeview signal deteriorated
All seems to be working ok, although I need to check how to record onto the DVD recorder from VCR.
The only noticeable change is that the freeview picture on the TV does not seem to be so sharp as prior to the new unit. The colours look a bit washed out compared with analogue and the text screens a little blurred. Any ideas? Could it be because the RF signal is now going through an additional device? Thanks |

To record from Freeview to DVDR just ensure the DVDR input is set to AV2 (as in John's set up) and press play on the VCR.
You can monitoring all your inputs to your TV (VCR or Freeview) by selecting AV2 on the DVDR and AV1 on the TV. You should be getting a great picture through scart into the RGB scart AV1 on your TV. You should only be using RF to watch analog while you are recording digital from Freeview. Yes, it is possible that the RF channel number on the DVDR is set close to the VCR and could be interfering. You can just retune the DVDR to a channel that is away from your normal TV channels and the VCR. However, check the picture quality through scart (using the RGB set up as John described) and you should be set. Rgds, Scorp |

New DVD recorder -connection problem
Thanks for the advice so far. Another problem has just become apparent. I cannot watch freeview whilst recording(analogue) on the DVD recorder.( the channel being recorded by the DVD is shown on AV1) I am using the connections suggested by John previously. All available Scarts are utilised.
One thing I have since realised is that my TV has only 1 RGB enabled scart socket rather than 2. Don't know if this affects anything? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks |

If you are recording Freeview through AV2 the DVDR can only pass this signal through. You can watch an analog channel on the TV by pressing 1,2,3,4,5 etc and get the signal via RF.
No matter how many scarts you have, you cant watch a 2nd digital channel with your setup as you only have one digital tuner (unless i am mistaken and there is one built in to the EH50??). Rgds, Scorp |

New desperate subscriber would like dumb dumb instruction.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi...Whilst being totally useful in all other areas I am a total wash out when it comes to going in behind the wilderness that is the back of my TV set. I have a cheap Bush TV with 1 scart lead outlet and what looks like just one little round hole outlet..lol. (the instructions for the Bush cannot be found to date. The TV is connected tp my Sky+ machine with a scart lead. I have now purchased from Tesco a DVDR Technika. I have connected this to my Sky+machine with another scart lead. The new Technika (as you know) comes with an assortment of leads. The smallest of the selection has two heads one red one white on each end. Can I just stick one of them into the TV socket leaving the other to dangle..if so which colour? What is happening now is the new Technika is powered and looking very colourful on its box front..green LCD ..bright blue ring around a large round item (should that be showing when its not recording or playing?) and huge red standy light. It does at least show a HELLO. I cannot get it to recognise the tv ..or it maybe the TV is not recognising it. Or it is not connected properly. Once I have the right connections and can see some menus or whatever up on my TV screen will I then have to play around with AV channels. I just dont understand them. If all is impossible..how much do you think an installer would charge me to set it all up. You can see I am a complete dumb dumb in this area so if you reply can you use the same titles as I use. .everything else will just go straight over my head..lol.. Another chance I have is using a new Argos Scart VideoUnit interconnect cable unit which looks very scary to me..has 4 scart socket TV...... Monitor VCR3/SAT/RGB (dont know what this means) VCR2 VCR1 2 yellow phono sockets 2 white out put 2 interface on the end of this box are old type press switches (as seen on older tape recorders) RGB (Dont know what this means) B-A and C-A switches all under RECODE title and under a VIEW title A B C switches. Although purchased a few years ago Ive just unwrapped it for the first time. The TV has two speakers I think..I do not have other speaker systems around the room. I would value your help so very much. Thank you. Cyndy. PS have also posted this under the Technika thread. |

The reply below is as posted by John currie for connection with a FView box and DVDR - the principle is identical for the Sky/DVDR arrangement.
TV Aerial to Sky RF in Sky RF out to DVDR RF in DVDR RF out to TV Aerial input. Scart from Sky TV out to DVDR AV2 (set to RGB in) Scart from DVDR AV1 (set to RGB out) to TV AV1 You need to set the DVDR input to be AV2 (this is the Sky connection) for recording from Sky or for passing the Sky signal through the DVDR to the TV. Set the TV to AV1 for watching Sky or DVDs. To record analog you must set the DVDR to autotune and find the channels. You can then record 1,2,3,4,5 etc. Post back for more advice.
